'Rolling in the Deep' is a song I never, ever want to hear again. It's been played on radio, on TV commercials, on internet videos, and I just want it to go away.

When I used to listen to FM radio, not only did Led Zeppelin have a song or two every hour, but several classic rock stations would have a "Get The Led Out" program, which was 30-60 minutes of Zep.

I actually haven't heard "We Are Young" a ton on my radio station, which is great since I love the song. For Pop, I'll say all of Katy Perry's recent singles (Part of Me, that other one that sounds just like Part of Me), but for Classic Rock, it's got to be "Bohemian Rhapsody". Yeah it's a great song, that doesn't mean I have to hear it 25 times a day in order to remember that. Is it strange to say that I've NEVER heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the radio? If anything, I hear "Another One Bites the Dust" played more often. I'll also echo "Rolling in the Deep" and "Starships". For Classic Rock, it's gotta be Led Zeppelin. Still like them, but damn.

I'm sure I've heard Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio. Another One Bites the Dust and We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions plays more frequently though, for sure. The classic rock stations in Chicago are pretty sweet. Not too much repetitive there. They also have a very cool "forgotten hits" feature every day at 5:15 where they dig up an old song that most don't remember, and Beatle Brunch on Sundays where they have a block of music from The Beatles with biographical/behind the scenes stories about them.

The correct answer is whatever's popular at the moment.
I never listen to music on the radio because of this. I'd rather hear two knuckleheads talk sports than listen to Adele complain about how some dude did her wrong and she's gonna go cry about it.

I don't listen to current radio anymore, but this takes me back a few years when "Hey Ya!" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" were the only two songs stations had on their playlists.

I rarely listen to the current stuff on XM, mostly the 80's and 90's and classic rock. Not a lot of repeats. I do like We are young and somebody I used to know though if I do switch to current music.

"We Are Young", and that's ONLY from the time that I'm at the gym. If Fun. wants to set the world on fire, we're going to have to start with the singer's nutsack.
There's the other usual suspects on pop radio (this is where my crippling podcast addiction comes in handy), but they're not as grating as "We Are Young". I hope Janelle Monae only did it so she could make Chipmunks money, just like David Cross.

I love my satellite radio! ;D I never have to hear the same song over and over. Except that most of what I can tell on XM is playlists, that repeat over and over again.

The correct answer is whatever's popular at the moment. I agree with this post. Even 15 years ago I remember it was very easy to find overplayed songs. And I think it's even worse now with fewer companies owning more stations (and believe me, it's not just Clear Channel). Not to mention many of these companies are in financial trouble, thus having this motivation to play it safe.

On a classic rock note, my local classic rock station has an odd thing for "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath, but at least it's a short enough song and I still like it enough for it not to bother me as much as the above three mentioned songs. With classic rock the answer is "classic rock". Classic rock stations have undeniably the worst playlists ever assembled. Yeah I want to hear the same three or four dozen Pink Floyd/Queen/Rolling Stones/Zeppelin/AC/DC/Foreigner/Journey/Rush songs until the heat death of the universe. I've never really liked a lot of dadrock in general though. The worst case of a song being overplayed in recent memory is the song "Handlebars" by Flobots. It's a really, really bad song in general but I remember the exact moment it broke me and drove me to the talk station (thankfully not a political talk station). I was driving, it comes on the rock station and seeing as the other stations around here are pop/country/christian... I was stuck. Then I get to a red light, have the windows down... and at least three other cars around me HAVE THAT SONG ON. I gave up, turned it to the talk station and haven't gone back... which was nice because on overnights/weekends it played indie rock until they decided to change that format to f***ing dadrock. As far as modern stuff goes, I don't even listen to pop radio at all and yet I've heard "Moves Like Jagger" too many times. It doesn't help that Maroon 5 is a terrible band that, as far as I can tell, is something Adam Levine started as a poorly disguised attempt to catapult himself into stardom. I don't listen to the radio for this reason alone. Thank god for ESPN radio. The problem with ESPN Radio (besides terrible stuff like Colin Cowherd and Mike & Mike) is the possibility of having a surprise Amy Lawrence appearance sprung on you and I'd be surprised if someone could deal with her pause... thenrunabunchofwordstogether cadence, her voice that sounds sarcastic/like she's about five seconds from laughing no matter what and her consistently wrong opinions about everything.

Obviously, the most played songs on today's music stations are the ones that are top on the pop charts. Should be no surprise to anyone.
Over the last 5 years though, I don't think I've ever heard a song played more than Kid Rock's "All Summer Long." Pop stations, "Adult Music" stations, Alternative Rock stations, even Classic Rock stations overplay this song. I know it's because "Sweet Home Alabama" & "Werewolves of London" are sampled, but still, it came out only 4 years ago, and I wouldn't even consider this song "Classic Rock." I don't listen to Country stations, but I wouldn't be surprised if this song gets played on them as well. It's an instant channel changer for me.
I do my best to try and not listen to what's popular most of the time. I've got an iPod, CDs, Pandora Radio, and Sirius-XM Radio online to keep me occupied when it comes to music.

I'll be the second to say "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock. From the summer of 2008 to about the spring of 2009, it felt like that song was the only song that Radio Stations, both mainstream and satellite, knew how to play. Between radio, commercials, live performances, the gym etc. You just couldn't escape that song.
And I hated it with an all-consuming passion. And I'm not one to get mad about that kind of stuff.
