I missed it by a little over a year, WrestleMania 5 was my first WWF exposure. Even starting out, I knew it was a huge deal. I would get Apter mags that would mention, old wrestling picture books did. I was always aware it happened. It was a huge, huge angle.

I remember being pissed off at the booking because I wanted to see Ted DiBiase wrestle circles around Hogan and be the first to pin him cleanly. I still think that Ted should've held the belt for one year.

I think the greatest response to Hogan losing the WWF Title to Andre was in Jericho's first book when he mentioned his friend frantically running into the deli Jericho worked at while in high school to relay the info to him.

How did the world react? I imagine the entire scenario caused a lot of rage, or were people sick of Hogan even back then? People weren't sick of Hogan because there wasn't an IWC. Things like the Torch and Wrestling Observer attracted some of that later fanbase though, sometimes wih a general anti-Hogan bent. Though ironically, this angle actually turned some people around on Hogan as he wasn't the champ any more. I don't think the casual, general audience starting booing (or at least cheering against) Hogan much until the arrival of interestingly different guys like Taker and Warrior.

And anyway, if you are trying to tell me there wouldn't have been 'smarks' in that period of time in the same way there weren't 'Back in MY day...' music people in the time of The Beatles and Elvis, you'll have to do a lot of convincing.
