So of the current roster (or at least of the 35 guys I could fit), who should be the first to win a World Title?
I kind of want to vote for Heath Slater

Wade Barrett is at the top of this list. He should be getting pushed towards a World Title right now.
Cody Rhodes should be getting a steady build. Cody is 27, still young in wrestling years. Let him be a top contender, but don't give him the belt just yet. He's the future, don't rush and try to make him the present.
Tensai, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre and Alex Riley should all be filler contenders or making up the numbers in multi-man matches.

Wade and Cody are the legit answers, imo. Kofi would be my third choice.
Most of them I can't take being a world champ seriously.

I don't know about first, but if Darren Young gets the right gimmick he's gonna go really far. Really good in the ring, good size, quick, distinctive look. He reminds me of The Rock, before he became "The Rock".

Not first, because that undisputedly goes to Wade Barrett, but with the right push, Alex Riley can go far. He's actually one of those guys who only needs one win against the right opponent to gain some momentum.
He's decent enough ring wise, charismatic as hell, and not too shabby on the mic. He's not a "technical wizard", but he seems to be really good when it comes to psychology, selling, and facial expressions. Even Daniel Bryan complimented him in an interview and said he wanted to see more of A-Ry on TV.
Say what you will about his look being "generic" but I think it could work for him if they pushed him as a "back to basics" type like Stone Cold Steve Austin was. Also, he more than makes up for it with his intensity and charisma.
I don't think he'd be "face of the company", but he could at least be a solid #3 or #4 face, like on Rey Mysterio's level.

Wade is the only one on that list who is ready now. Hell, I'd say Wade was ready for a run during The Nexus to be honest.

I personally don't want to see any first time world champions for a while!
