With about 2 1/2 months left in the TV season, here's how things look so far for the broadcast networks:
ABCCertain Renewal: Grey's Anatomy, The Middle, Modern Family, Once Upon a Time, Scandal, Suburgatory
Likely Renewal: Castle, Nashville, The Neighbors, Revenge
On The Bubble: Body Of Proof, Last Man Standing, Malibu Country
Likely Cancellation: Happy Endings
Certain Cancellation: Red Widow
Final Season: Private Practice (completed)
Already Cancelled: 666 Park Avenue, Don't Trust The B In Apt. 23, Last Resort, Zero Hour
ABC hasn't had much to be happy about this season. Scandal has improved upon last year's numbers, but everything else is mostly down. Happy Endings and Apt. 23 proved that they can't survive on their own. Even the Sunday night combo of Once Upon a Time and Revenge appears to be fading. ABC will likely finish 4th for the season.
CBSAlready Renewed: The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS
Certain Renewal: 2 Broke Girls, Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, CSI, Elementary, Hawaii Five-0, Mike & Molly, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person Of Interest, Two And a Half Men
On The Bubble: The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Rules Of Engagement
Likely Cancellation: CSI: NY, Golden Boy
Certain Cancellation: Vegas
Already Cancelled: Made In Jersey, Partners
As usual, CBS is in the best shape of the broadcast networks. The Big Bang Theory has been unstoppable over the past few months, regularly beating American Idol head-to-head. There have been some missteps, though, like Made In Jersey. CBS will likely premiere 3 new dramas in the fall, so assuming Vegas is cancelled, that means 2 more dramas will be cut between CSI: NY, Golden Boy, The Good Wife, and The Mentalist. CBS also usually cancels its 2 lowest-rated comedies, and with Partners gone, this may be the final season for Rules Of Engagement.
CWAlready Renewed: Arrow, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries
Likely Renewal: Nikita
On The Bubble: Beauty And The Beast, The Carrie Diaries, Hart Of Dixie
Certain Cancellation: Cult
Final Season: 90210, Gossip Girl (completed)
Already Cancelled: Emily Owens M.D.
With 90210 wrapping up and Cult pretty much a lock to get the axe, it still may not be over. CW could still decide to cancel one of its bubble shows. If last year is any indication, it could be Beauty And The Beast, which has performed only modestly despite having The Vampire Diaries as its lead-in.
FOXAlready Renewed: American Dad, Bob's Burgers, Bones, Family Guy, The Following, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Raising Hope, The Simpsons
Certain Renewal: Glee
Likely Cancellation: The Cleveland Show
Certain Cancellation: Touch
Final Season: Fringe (completed)
Already Cancelled: Ben And Kate, The Mob Doctor
Looks like FOX is almost set in place for next season. An announcement for Glee getting renewed could come at any time. Touch is pretty much a goner, and The Cleveland Show may get the axe as well.
NBCCertain Renewal: Chicago Fire, Grimm*, Law & Order: SVU, Parenthood, Parks & Recreation, Revolution*
On The Bubble: Community, Go On, Whitney
Likely Cancellation: Deception
Certain Cancellation: 1600 Penn, Guys With Kids, The New Normal, Smash, Up All Night*
Final Season: 30 Rock (completed), The Office
Already Cancelled: Animal Practice, Do No Harm
It's pretty clear that The Voice is the only thing keeping NBC afloat. Take that away, and NBC would be in 5th place for the entire season instead of just February sweeps. The situation for NBC's comedies is very dire- aside from The Office, Parks & Rec is easily the highest-rated comedy on the network, so it's a lock for renewal. After that, it's slim pickings; the other comedies haven't done any better than a 1.2 demo rating lately. It's entirely possible that all of the bubble comedies will be renewed.
*Grimm, Revolution, and Up All Night all return to the schedule in the coming weeks, so we'll see how well their renewal chances really are.
