I've only ever really listened to football on the radio, and though I don't do it often, I enjoy it. I don't know why, I think it's more memory and nostalgia based than anything - drives home listening to the game on the radio and whatnot.
How 'bout you?

Love listening to baseball on the radio. There's a sense of urgency imo that gets achieved.

I like the occasional football game on the radio. That's something I love about having SiriusXM service. If the Packers game isn't being televised here in Tennessee that day, I can always catch it on the radio. The only annoying thing about that is that if it's a road game, you get the opponents' announce crew. I think my hatred of the Vikings was increased after about 10 minutes of a game last season.

I've found myself devoid of cable television for some time now, which means I have to listen to these guys for Yankee coverage 140 out of 162 games:

John Sterling's antics make me both facepalm and laugh at the same time. He's so ridiculously corny that it's endearing.
I'll listen on the radio to any sort of sports if I have no choice. Otherwise, visual all the way. Though if commentary is driving me nuts on TV, especially on national broadcasts (ESPECIALLY ESPN baseball games), I'll put the TV on mute and put it on 660 or 880.

Tom Hamilton is the only Indians announcer that doesn't completely suck.

They should have both crews available. I know I can usually find the Broncos crew no matter where the game is played. Never heard of them only carrying the home team. To answer the question, I don't if the TV is available simply because of the time delay (hearing about something happening 7 seconds or more before it happens on TV drives me nuts) but have no problems doing it if I am out.

No, I do listen to my team's football/soccer away games if I'm not attending the match but that's only because it's usually the only option (or was when we were in the championship). Most of the time they're waffling on about the traffic on the way up, their half-time food and how cold it is rather than the actual match.

Only if I'm in the car, or occasionally if I'm at the event I'll listen the game on the radio.

Football and baseball are fine. Basketball and especially hockey are terrible.

When I was a freshman in high school, I couldn't watch tv after a certain time on the weekdays, to encourage me to study and do homework. The TV would come out of my room every sunday night and would be taken back out every friday afternoon... however, I still had my cable box and stereo hooked up, so on Monday nights and Thursday nights, I would listen to WWF while I was recording it on to tape. So, I can understand listening to sports on the radio.

Yes, often the radio calls are better and more informed then the TV call.
Plus it's handy to know what is going on if you are at the match itself.

I listen to baseball and (sometimes) college football on the radio. I take my radio to baseball games because listening to the broadcasters makes keeping score easier for me.
For the NFL fans, do you ever turn down the sound on your TV and try to listen to the local radio crew? My dad did that a lot, with varying degrees of success. Sometimes the two broadcasts would sync up perfectly, or maybe a second or two apart. Other times the delay would be extremely noticeable--on radio the play would be developing while on TV, the two teams would still be in formation.

I get tempted to, especially when Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are calling the game, but I haven't. I may try it out this season, I'm interested to see if it'd sync up or not.

When Dick Irvin Jr used to do the Habs games on CJAD I just loved it. I'd listen to him while watching the feed on TV (which was usually in French). It was great. He was pretty fair all around and wasn't too much of a homer. He was also very good at calling the action properly and you'd always have a good idea of what was going on.
The current guy is ok but it's just not the same. So I just watch games on TV (French or in English).

I listen to baseball all the time during work. It's nice noise filler and it always makes me happy in the pants to hear the Cubs lose.
