This was a long time ago, so I don't know if they still do it, but my father used to listen to NASCAR races on the radio sometimes, and let me tell you, if there is one thing more boring that watching a bunch of cars drive around in a circle, it is LISTENING to a bunch of cars drive around in a circle.

I can accomplish more while listening on the radio. I can relax in the pool, do yardwork, get dishes done - all without having to watch the game with my own eyes. I picture everything that happens. And it all revolves around baseball.
The Cubs (720AM - WGN) have a fun radio team: Pat Hughes & Keith Moreland.
The White Sox (670AM - WSCR) are more than adequate enough. Ed Farmer & Darrin Jackson are my eyes to the game. And it takes a lot for them to get bent out of shape, as opposed to our lead TV announcer, who shall remain nameless.
I miss the days when I would twist that dial to listen to games all over the Midwest at night. There's Jack Buck in St. Louis (1120). Ernie Harwell in Detroit (760). Marty Brenneman in Cincinnati (700). The guy in Minnesota calling the Twins (830). The man in Colorado calling the Rockies (850). On a good day, there's the Texas Rangers (820), Pittsburgh Pirates (Pittsburgh was hard to get in just right - they were 1020 while Chicago's 1000 would bleed over), Houston Astros & Atlanta Braves (750). Kansas City (I think 580).

I love it. I worked at a radio station when I was in high school and my first few years in college. We were an affiliate of Packers, Badgers, and Brewers games. I probably ran the audio board for almost 100 Brewer games. There's literally nothing in sports quite like Bob Uecker calling a game.

If it's a good announcer, it can be great. The Thunder announcer is good though and I like listening to him.
If you get a bad play-by-play guy and they spend more time talking about unrelated of off-the-field things, it can be pretty grating. Of course, that varies sport by sport, sports with a lot of downtime I'd accept that more.

I forgot about them. Just an oversight, loved the ballpark. Been there twice.) Couldn't get Boston or New York because a lot of Chicago stations are just one click over and would bleed into it. Baltimore, it has to be absolutely perfect to get them.

I love listening to the Cubs on the radio, even though I've been fighting the sadness of Ron Santo being gone.

Kinda hard to miss Ron Santo when they play a clip from the CD every 7th inning. (Usually about Ron's hairpiece or Pat's ugly sweaters. Never hear a loud groan when something's happening and you're wondering if either the opposing team is doing well or Ron's having an episode.)
Keith Moreland is pretty funny in his own down-home Texas way. I always liked good ol' #6.
