It's time for a little fantasy booking. Yesterday, I was thinking of matches that could have happened back in the day and what would have sold the most tickets (as in most people in an arena). So I thought I'd propose this question to all of you. Let's say that you owned an arena that was capable of fitting as many people as you need be. That means it could do 20 people, 2,000 people, 20,000 people, even 2,000,000 people or more. You also are capable of signing any wrestler you want and making any match you want at the time. But there are a few rules: 1. The match has to be physically possible. All of the wrestlers must be alive and capable of wrestling. This means you can't book John Cena vs. Lou Thesz for example. 2. All of the wrestlers in your match must be from the same point in time. This means you can't book 1987 Hogan vs 1998 Austin. However you can book 1998 Hogan vs 1998 Austin. 3. The date selected for both wrestlers must be the same. For example, you can't pick Austin from November of 1998 but Sting from January of 1998. This is important because one guy could fizzle out over a few months. So with these rules in mind, what match do you think would have sold the most tickets in a limitless arena? I'll put mine in spoiler tags for those who don't want any inspiration and want to think on their own: {Spoiler}Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Bill Goldberg in the summer of 1998

Austin vs. Goldberg in 1998 could have been the biggest match of all time.
Today, I think a Wrestlemania headlined by Rock vs. Brock and Undertaker vs. Cena could come close to filling a 100,000 seat arena.

All of the above are excellent choices, but here's a choice I've never heard: Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon circa 1999. Bret's still in proper shape, McMahon is just becoming a force in WWF. After Owen's death and not long after the Screwjob, Bret returns to have it out with McMahon. Yes, this is borderline exploitation of Owen's death, but since this is a hypothetical based on selling tickets and not a measure of good taste, I'm sure Bret/McMahon '99 would have really drawn with the right build. Frame it as a real-life conflict with some spice of wrestling drama and it would have been huge. It wouldn't be a five-star match or probably even all that good, but just think about the dramatic possibilities.

Agreed with Austin vs. Goldberg in '98. Flair vs. Hogan in '88 or '89 would have been interesting, but since just a few years later it didn't do the kind of business they wanted, who knows. Flair vs. Savage four years sooner than it happened might have also been a combination of a money match and also quality from a wrestling standpoint (and better than Hogan vs. Flair). Money wise, probably Austin and Goldberg is the real answer.

Champ vs Champ Sting vs Ultimate Warrior (Summer 1990)
Though it would be an undercard match it would be cool to see HBK vs Jushin Liger vs Brian Pillman in a 3 way in '92

Austin vs Goldberg could have been an outdoors standing show like a music festival. I don't think there is a venue that could have held it

Austin vs Goldberg at the height of their popularities would have blown everything else out of the water.
Make sure Austin is WWE Champion, Goldberg is WCW Champion and of course the streak would be on the line and you'd have the makings of the biggest match ever.

97 Raven vs 97 Undertaker vs 97 mankind, the mindgames leading into this match would have been incredible. Has any PPV with a triple threat main event drawn more than it should've? I mean in context here. The Attitude Era did gangbuster numbers, but were there any PPVs in drought eras, or even B-shows in the hot periods that drew more than expected with a triple threat main event?

WWE Champion John Cena vs. World Heavyweight Champion Batista in a title unification match at Wrestlemania XXII. Assuming Batista never got injured and they both kept their titles for the whole year beforehand. This match at the time could have sold out a far bigger arena than the Allstate Arena which is where Wrestlemania was held that year. The Rock/Austin/HHH triple threat that ended up never happening at Survivor Series 1999 could have been huge if it happened at some point in 2000 or 2001. 11 Bobby Roode vs CM Punk Would that match really sell a lot of tickets?

How about Hogan/Warrior vs LOD when the Road Warriors first entered the WWF?

Ok, I'll go with these that haven't been said yet. All would be great too watch.
Summer 08 Bryan Danielson vs. Kurt Angle I picked this because Angle was healther then he is present day. Even though present day these too would have an amazing match.
Kurt Angle vs. CM Punk Present Day. The whole Best in the World would be what it's all about.
Chris Jericho vs. Samoa Joe 2004. As Jericho wouldn't matter in what year. I was going for a more motivated time and some what slimmer Joe. So I went with ROH World Champion era show. I think I got the right year.
Sting vs. Shawn Michaels Summer of 96

Summer of 99 (we'll say SS just because) - HHH vs Mankind vs The Rock vs Austin and keep Jesse Ventura as the ref I think would draw money at that point of time.
