For a second, I thought this thread was real and was prepared to go on a long rant about why I can't stand this movie. Thank goodness.

Yeah, these days I just like to assume much like the AVGN that Godzilla (1998) is in fact The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms (1998)

What exactly does the monster from Godzilla '98 share in common with the Rhedosaurus from Beast, aside from the fact that they both attack New York?

I liked it. I still like it. I like the previous Godzillas too but they are just dudes in a crappy suit knocking down cardboard. In fact they are just a bunch of dudes suit suit fighting each other. It's illogical that this monster would then protect the earth from all of these other monsters.
98 Godzilla is fine by me.

I've mentioned my major problems with this Godzilla in my first Monster Crap induction besides the terrible acting. And I will always show what Japan thinks of the 1998 Godzilla because in Godzilla: Final Wars......the two monsters do face off, kinda.
Seriously, everytime we talk about the terrible American version of Godzilla..........I always watch this fight scene and laugh.

I like the '98 American version more than the others.

What exactly does the monster from Godzilla '98 share in common with the Rhedosaurus from Beast, aside from the fact that they both attack New York? They look similar, they both come from underwater, radioactive, they both attack New York, Both are attacked and driven off by the army, both come back, both are then killed by the army.

The movie is fine. It gets unfair criticism.

The build up to Godzilla's arrival in New York is very well done.
The crappy romance subplot didn't help matters though. I just didn't care about whether Matthew Broderick and the annoying blonde reporter got together. The movie was saved however due to the Simpsons-related actors.

I prefer it to any other Godzilla movie I've seen. Not that that's saying much.

I prefer it to any other Godzilla movie I've seen. Not that that's saying much. I've seen quite a few Godzilla films. The '98 one is the only one I enjoyed, and own.
