Well, single and sexually active is a lot different than single and dry for years. What is that supposed to mean? Well being single and lonely sucks compared to being single and hooking up with people. Hooking up with randoms is the way to get the most out of being single, why else would anyone want to do it? If you're single and doing it right you shouldn't feel lonely.

/\ or maybe some people don't need to be sexually active to feel validated.

I would love to have someone to hold and talk to, but I don't think I'm up for the drama of relationships.

I guess so. I certainly enjoy the freedom and solitary it allows me, and I never get sad about be being single. But I do want to have a relationship but I don't need to have one.

I've been in a relationship for 4 years and it seems to me that my single friends are LIVING THE DREAM. I love my GF, but there are moments where the "I made out with 5 girls last night" stories do make me a little jealous Yeah, not all single people have awesome stories like this. Usually my awesome stories consist of "Hey, I did nothing but sleep and haven't showered in 3 days."

I sure am. I get to do whatever the hell I want without having someone to answer to at the end of the day/night. I can talk to anyone I like without someone watching behind me getting jealous. No immense paranoia. Yeah, I've just come out of a bad relationship. I'm in a relationship and I can do those things you mentioned fine. I was happy when I was single too, and I'm happy now. When I was single I never thought 'Gee I'd be so much happier with a girlfriend' and now I have noe I don't go 'I'd be so much happier single'.

I've been single for almost a year now, and I'm loving it. This is the longest I've gone without being in a committed relationship since I was 16, so it's really a refreshing change. I have been going on dates now and then, and I'm still getting laid somewhat frequently, so I'm pretty much covering all the bases I want to without being tied down to anyone.
Now, to let a great man sum it up for all us single fellas:

I've been actively pursuing relationships lately more than I ever have before (I'm 27, I figure it's time to see if the "right girl" is out there...not like I want to get married tomorrow or even next year, but I feel I at least need an eye towards the future), but by and large I've rarely had any problems with being single. You set your own schedule, you're not beholden to anyone, you do the things that amuse you, etc. Nothing wrong with enjoying that. I just want to give the whole relationship scene a legitimate try now. I'm kinda in this boat to be fair. Being in post-undergrad studies I feel like I need to focus on work, but I also really want to try to find someone that I want to be around and share my experiences with, maybe even forever. Yeah, I'm a softy romantic, but I think all of us are deep down.

No. I'm sad and lonely and don't have anybody to do anything with and don't know how to meet people anymore. On the bright side it does give me more time to respond to stupid threads on internet message boards.

I just want to sleep in the same bed as a naked woman. You know, with her being aware of it.

In my 20s I was. Now that I'm in my mid 30s I'm getting this weird midlife "I need to have a wife and kids before it's too late" crisis thing going on.

I am sort of single and I enjoy it far more then I use too,I think alot of it is due to being alone with my thoughts and not having to tell someone every single thing I am thinking and doing.

You're making a mountain out of an ant hill. I don't understand what the whole point in one night stands. You basically **** someone who you don't intend to speak to or see after that. I don't get it. Nobody said anything about one night stands, but you summarized why people have them. Sometimes you just need to get laid without any emotions at all and one night stands are perfect for that because you don't have to worry about the other person's feelings. If you hook up with someone you know there's a risk of emotions getting involved or just making things awkward. A one night stand is something you have to experience in order to appreciate it, however they really aren't ideal for me so I tend to avoid them.
