Zack Ryder has great regular battle royal skills, but I don't think he's made 5 minutes in his two Royal Rumble appearances.

I don't like Ryder...like, at all. BUT, I don't hate this idea. As someone else said, this could truly be the first time in years that a Royal Rumble win actually elevated somebody.

Zack winning would be the same as if Virgil had won the 'Rumble in 1992. He's very over with kids and some adults (I was a kid, and I remember all of my friends loved Virgil back then too).
But he's a career mid-carder, IMO.

Ryder actually has won FOUR battle royals. On the 9/9/07 smackdown he and his "brother" won a tag team battle royal for the number one contendership when they Ryder eliminated Deuce and Domino simultaneously.

But yeah, he isn't winning the Royal Rumble.

I'd mark! The narrative of it would be adorable. And it would be a lot more interesting than any of the recent rumble wins.

One thing I'd love about a Ryder vs Ziggler for the title narrative is that so far, their rivalry consists of Ziggler always being one step ahead of him but Ryder still chasing after him. It would be a really neat angle if Ziggler was, say, on commentary during the Rumble saying that he had beaten everyone who was ahead of him and then slowly but surely realizing that Ryder had nearly caught up with him.
Plus Ryder isn't just an underdog, he is like THE underdog. As a fan I wish he won more often, but I think him losing so often makes his wins more special. I think that every time Ryder "overcomes the odds" it legitimately feels mark-worthy because, well, he's Zack Ryder!

I like Ryder but this would pretty much be one of the worst ideas ever.

He is perfect for the win that the Rumble is supposed to produce. A Rumble win can strap a rocket to a midcarder. I think that would make a great storyline. Seeing how he deals with being the "Main event" at mania.
