And by that I mean modern mainstream country music, as I know mainstream is never an accurate or fair representation of a genre.
But seriously, have more contrived, cliche lyrics ever existed? Some of this stuff is like Glam on steroids.
Seriously, some of these lyrics are so bad they're damn near offensive. It's like somebody looked up "things that people in the South are said to enjoy", and wrote multiple songs about it. Just awful, awful stuff.
So, yeah - that's my rant for the day. Not Orange, out. ;D

I knew that "Truck Yeah" would be included in this. At it's worst the songwriters on music row are just plain embarrassing with their contrived lyrics.
Since we're on the subject of bad country songs, can someone explain to me exactly how "We're never ever getting back together" is a country song.?

Don't forget to work in a "I LOVE AMERICA" verse then fly the confederate flag from the antenna of your truck in the video.

I like country music but Zod help me.... I try my best to defend my state and the southern region from stereotyping, but there is nothing I can say to convince myself that this is ok......

As a fan of REAL country music (Johnny Cash, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Randy Travis, etc.), it is a shame that this is the kind of drivel that is dominating the airwaves. What makes it worse is that there is stuff like The Avett Brothers, Mumford and Sons, The Decemberists, Iron and Wine, and The Civil Wars out there that can't get any radio time because of this crap.

The main thing that puts me off from Jason Aldean is that he has his name on his guitar. That irks me for some reason, it doesn't hardly matter that much - but that's just incredibly douchey.

Sometimes, something is so stupid that no, I can't just turn my brain off. I'm usually good at doing this but country music is one of those things I just can't ignore no matter how hard I try.

All you need is base country-themed lyrics and a little twang in your geetar and BAM! You're a country singer.

See, I get that it's supposed to be fun. But it seems like they follow two schools of thought.
1. Write an Upbeat Song: Scan The Internet or bumper stickers for memes we can turn into songs.
2. Write a ballad: Find the most heartwrenching story we can possibly come up with and keep going with it until you feel like your heart has been ripped out, chewed up, swallowed, vomited back up, then shat upon.

I'll take any opportunity to promote Caitlin Rose, though as an example of good modern country (though sadly not really mainstream).

I think it's that way for most popular music, but yeah, Tim McGraw illustrates this really well. We get Truck Yeah this year, but if you were listening in 2004, you probably heard Live Like You Were Dying non stop for several months.

There are a handful of modern country songs/groups i like (mainly as a guilty pleasure, though there's no guilt in me liking travis tritt) but for the most part this is why i stick to hank jr, waylon jennings, david allan coe, and charlie daniels.

Travis Tritt isn't modern country. His prime was the 90s.
