The nation were pretty much a "brotherhood" so why the white guys?
It kind of made those white wrestlers seem look a little awkward.

Probably to make it seem less racist.

You know that white guys can be held down by "the Man"? It's not just exclusive to minorities.

Well when Rock joined, he said to him it wasn't about race but rather about respect. It was Faarooq who founded the Nation as a militant group of outsiders, and then fired Savio and Crush to make it 'blacker'. So when he was removed from power, it makes sense that Rock would have no problem becoming allies with a guy like Owen.

Owen was Canadian, and Canadians are a minority in the U.S.

I always assumed Owen was more alligned with the Nation than actually a part of it.

Owen's not the only white guy. There's also Crush and PG-13.

I always assumed Owen was more alligned with the Nation than actually a part of it. Owen was co-leader with The Rock. He wasn't just a henchman like D'Lo or Godfather.

To be fair, when Faarooq fired Crush and Savio, he fired everybody, except for D'lo. See, I guess when I was a kid, I didn't get the racial implications to be honest. I always saw Crush as more of a hired gun as well, as Savio seemed to dress like the rest of the Nation, but Crushed stayed the same. Plus, I liked adding in PG 13 there.

You gotta have some white guys in there in case the cops show up.
It's science.

For those wondering how the white guys got into the Nation, I believe the interview process went something like this:
"You gotta fight for your right... TO VOTE!!!"
(Nation members agree and clap)
"That's one small step for man, one giant....... I HAVE A DREAM!!!
YYYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH"
(Nation members get a little more hyped up and agree that it's looking good)
"KILL WHITEY!!!!!!!!!"

Because the Nation doesn't discriminate.

So WWE could say that it wasn't a racist black militant group. Crush was already aligned with Clarence Mason when Nation was forming, so it made sense for him to be part of the group. Also, I think PG-13 was part of the Memphis or Smokey Mountain version of the Nation, so they were imported to WWE when WWE took this gimmick.

I think after Rock took over, it became less about race and more about guys who felt victimized by WWF fans.
I think the original concept was just to make it a militant group, but it turned into a black militant group for the start of the gang wars.
