...you're not shocking. You're not risque. You're not "dangerous". You're not a "bad boy of comedy". You're not the next Lenny Bruce. No one is scared of you or what you say.

Dear -Lithium-,
We respect your advice and will take it under serious advisement at our next community meeting. In the mean time we would request that you please refrain from generalising to such a degree. Some of us are not in the shock business and were hurt by your words.
Hope this letter finds you in good mind, body and health.
Kind regards Every Comedian.
P.s. Donald Glover sends his love.

Lenny Bruce sucked anyways. That's sort of like saying Hippocrates sucked at medicine. Whether he was good, bad, etc, it is more the path he blazed for other comedians and entertainers in general in regards to their rights of free speech that mattered.

I feel like most comedians that try to do "shocking" come off as trying too hard. I know a few guys that can pull it off but even then, it kinda gets old after a while.

Lenny Bruce was a funny guy and his autobiography is one of my favorite bios ever (and I love reading bios). On the other hand I don't think his stand-up would appeal to a more modern audience.

Comedians feel the need to keep pushing the envelope and often times you wonder if there's anywhere else to go. Now the shock seems forced a lot and it's pretty negative. Some people argue that there is no line to cross in comedy. I think that maybe they crossed all the lines they can cross and just about everything that can be done, has been done.
If I'm wrong, well what are some examples of new territory we can get into? There very well could be, that's why I like discussing topics here and getting opinions.

I also must protest overused impressions, especially of Leno. No one that does a Jay Leno impression ever seems to do a good one.

I am fine as long as comedians have something to offer, whether it an attempt to shock or what have you. The only real gripe I have is one note comedians. Or comedians who base their ENTIRE set off their own race/gender/size. Comedians like Larry the Cable Guy and Ralphie May both come to mind, respectively.

There isn't a lot of puppy-targeted material, so that could possibly be potential oil on the comedy land. I mean, almost everyone loves adorable puppies, so they're a sacred cow ripe for slaughtering, right?

Hey, I've done stand up comedy 4 times in the last 3 years! The only shocking aspect was the amount of people going to the bar during my sets.

I have a new standup/performance art routine that is just me saying the word "rape" for 30 minutes.

A lot of comedians also seem to take certain segments of society that arent too popular with the Hollywood crowd and are "shocking" and "dangerous" because of it.
