Here is a hint. Tape George Carlin on your DVR, they play his specials once in a while. When one of these bullshit edgy comics comes on your tv, put on the DVR

The only acceptable voice of stand up comedy is that of the one who mocks stand up comedy. I love Stewart Lee. He recently did a podcast with his old partner, Richard Herring. It's not the funniest thing ever (although when it is, it's f***ing hilarious) but it's a really good discussion on his career and such. If you haven't heard it, track it down.

I really recommend the Talking Funny special. Even if you don't like Seinfeld, Ricky Gervais, Louis CK, and Chris Rock, the discussion of what goes into comedy, starting off, etc, is interesting, as they have had very different careers and approaches. I love all four guys, personally, but if you did not, it could still be a good watch.

That would be career suicide for most, not to mention they wouldn't bother. Most of them probably would either be too small to be able to do it without looking like a whiny upstart, or would be big enough to where they'd be better off making their own name. That, and these could be people they are friends with. Mostly the only way to get gone after in comedy is to crib bits, and if you want to see comedians go after people, that is more or less Joe Rogan's domain on that one. He loves taking people to task. What you are suggesting is a real-life version of Kathy Griffin in her Seinfeld role, and that just isn't sustainable in my eyes. You can only talk about another act so much before you get his with a cease letter or run out of material. Good point, maybe I shoulda said jerks themselves. Most of the celebs that get trashed might do something stupid, but the comedians are bigger douches IMO for blowing it out of proportion. Wait I don't understand. So we want some comics to make a name for themselves by taking other comics to task for making jokes? Like a whole set of bits like "anyone else think Amy Schumer is mean? Tracy Morgan might have his fans but some of the hateful language he uses just rubs me the wrong way."

Most of the people I don't care for or find to be dicks are some of the comedians I mentioned. No one would dare trash them because they seem to always be in the right with their criticisms. No one goes after them. Really it wouldn't even have to be a comedian going after them, just someone

I've many times thought up routines based on other comedians' stuff, but I think there's kind of an unspoken rule that you don't really go after other comics, generally speaking... See, that would be a new line that hadn't been crossed I think that line has been crossed to an extent. Every Comedy Central Roast, it seems like everyone calls each other "unentertaining", "unfunny", or says that "X is at the bottom of the entertainment totem pole".

I honestly can't see why you have a thing against comedians ripping on celebrities in their act. They're just trying to get laughs.

People take comedians too seriously... I thought we wanted freedom of speech? We do. The comedians have the right to say their crappy jokes, and he have the right to call them out on being hacks.

People take comedians too seriously... I thought we wanted freedom of speech? Aren't you interpreting this as the opposite of what people are saying? The point is 'comedians trying to be edgy are lame,' not 'comedians trying to be edgy are OFFENSIVE AND SHOULD STOP IT'

I don't know a lot of comics that make a living harping on celebrity foibles. I know Kathy Griffin and Chelsea Handler were mentioned(I've never seen Chelsea perform though) but does anyone really hold them up as great comics? I agree with people saying when a comedian has his/her singular subject and adheres only to that through their entire act, but I ignore them. Comedians making jokes are far less offensive to me than "journalists" who basically get away with criminal behavior. And let's face it, though there are a lot of instances where I can't stand the "they're public figures, they're asking for it" defense, but people like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardassian literally ask for it. They insist on maintaining celebrity status while having absolutely nothing to offer.

I support the hatred of one notes.
There's a difference between finding your niche and finding a crutch to hold your weak act up.
