Gawker did a long form piece on one of Reddit's biggest/creepiest users, who gained "fame" for reposting a bunch of NSFW (I'm being extremely kind when I say that) stuff. Reddit responded to this article by banning everything from Gawker Media. Just creepy stuff all around.

Y'know as much as it gets thrown around in jokes or insults, it's still weird when the guy behind the troll actually is a creepy old man. But yeah, I don't personally think that if you're posting stuff like that on a website that you have much to complain about when someone outs you like that. I've always sorta hated that whole "anonymous" part of the Internet.

Incredible bit of journalism. One of the reasons I don't bother with Reddit.

Reddit is a cesspool of perversity, stories like this are why I've never given it a second look.

This stuff is easy to stay away from. Yeah, it actually is, especially since you can control the subreddits you are subscribed to.

I find it very ironic that the moderators at Reddit are banning Gawker Media's stuff because of their worry of posting of Reddit users' info on the web for all to see......when that's something that Reddit users(not all, mind you, but quite a few), do all the freaking time.

It all depends on what subreddit you go to. Stay away from religion, video games, politics, porn, and specifically r/Imgoingtohellforthis and you will be fine.

Incredible bit of journalism. I always find it strange when a site like that contains better journalism than many of the respected newspapers. You wonder why such sites can uncover stories like this when Britain's mainstream media couldn't do it for the cover-ups regarding Hilsbourough and Jimmy Saville despite (or because) them being more high-profile with a lot of rumours and information being public knowledge (not that those three stories are on the same level).

So I went to the "WTF" section (in a incognito window) and good lord. Creepy as hell.

True, they have to be much more careful with legalities of such stories.

Because you can hide behind an avatar and bask in relative anonymity on the internet doesn't mean you should abandon common sense and morality.

Hypocrites, much? This may be playing Devil's Advocate here, but that Chen didn't out the people who gave him Brutsch's information, or the methods they used to get it is also kind of hypocritical of someone who wants to expose other people's personal lives and IDs.
