I am a fan of Ryback but he's not nearly on Goldberg's level. Goldberg's push has been given to guys over and over, but it truly speaks to his charisma and presence that only he managed to translate it into being one of the most popular wrestlers of all time and in-ring, Goldberg was stronger and more athletic than Ryback.
As for the money thing, I don't really care. Goldberg went out there every night, worked hard, entertained the fans and got his check. I don't need him to bleed wrestling, it doesn't change what he did while he was working. I don't feel cheated because he was fine walking away with his health and some money.

Won't stop the Goldberg chants. WWE want this match down the line.

The reason a segment of the audience, usually males in their mid-to-late twenties and up, chant Goldberg at Ryback is that Goldberg is still so very memorable. I would be more willing to believe this if people weren't chanting "Albert" at Tensai. Sometimes I wonder whether the crowd are just doing it to be mean.

So people are honestly reacting either ways to something quoted in a kayfabe-magazine? Really? Pfffffttt, the internet.

Being that Goldberg was responsible for ending the career of two of my all-time favorites (Crush and Bret Hart), I can get behind Ryback talking trash about him.
Still, ironic that as soon as we talk about Punk burying Miz, we have Ryback talking trash about Goldberg.

I agree with everything Ryback says but then I was never a fan of Goldberg (apart from the Rodney Mack squash for some strange reason).

Some of the responses here vilifying him for daring be in it for the money just kill me. Know why I go to to work? The money. I doubt there's a single person in the business that would wrestle just for fun or minimum wage. I also take issue with people saying he doesn't care about his fans when he obviously does and has stated as such many, many times. Hell, he said that's why he didn't want to turn heel during Russo's reign...his young fans. But hey, it's not Cena saying it, so boo this man.
On that note, know who else is in it for the money?
That Hogan guy who walked out on WWE for them daring not pay him what he believed he was worth.
That Lesnar guy who's only doing like ten appearances for major, major money.
All the guys that came to WWE instead of rotting away in the indies for a minor percentage of the same money.
It's just silly.

A chill ran down my spine when I read "I'm here for life". I hope his tenure is considerably less than that.
Also, I would agree that his quote is silly. As someone already stated, he's not even close to Goldberg's level. Not only that, I think the "but he only did it for the money!" accusation is really stupid. I don't blame Goldberg a bit for wanting to get out while he was still in good health.

Inarguable facts:
1) Goldberg was very, very successful, albeit only for a handful of years. 2) Goldberg started his training late in life, hence by the peak of his popularity, he had been wrestling for a shorter time than Ryback has until now. 3) Ryback was pushed from the beginning of the character as somebody to pay close attention to and to chant for. Goldberg was thrown out on TV and other than his dominant booking featured no frills or fanfare.
I think that Ryback is doing just fine at the moment, and even though the Goldberg comparisons aren't exactly unfair (just as they were fair to Lashley when he was doing basically the same thing and still struggling to get fully over), it's not as though the current climate in wrestling is similar to how it was in 1998. Fans were more into EVERYTHING back then, because the product as a whole was really hot. Goldberg benefitted from that.
It's taken more prodding by WWE to get the fans to react exactly how they'd like to Ryback, BUT it's not like he had been existing in bored silence at any point, even in the beginning. The toughest parts of Ryback's ascension remain to be trodden. Judging by his comments, I can only hope that HE realizes that, because even though he's been wrestling for a long time, toiling away in developmental forever can still only prepare you so much for the big stage.

I remember Goldberg very well, and Ryback is not on Goldberg's level -- in overness or in-ring talent. As for being in it in the money, I think you'd be a damn fool not to wanna make as much money as you can. I don't blame Goldberg for that. It's a stupid argument anyway.

He was squashing random local jobbers that never even looked like they stood a chance, while Goldberg defeated quite a few notable superstars during his first few matches.

I'm pretty sure by saying he was in it for the money Ryback is saying Goldberg didn't have a passion for wrestling. Don't understand where this "of course you wanna make as much money as you can" thing comes from.

I like Ryback, but good lord...get off your f***ing high horse. Is everyone taking this whole "respect" thing to heart.
I'd rather be Ultimate Warrior over Ric Flair any day. If that means I was only in it for the money...fine. But that means I made enough money and was good with it to have a nice modest life without constantly worrying where my next paycheck will be coming from.
