Prior to him turning heel, I always assumed that Miz was in line to be another heel for Punk to "vanquish" so to speak. But for some odd reason they pushed Miz down the card, and I figured that the concept of Miz and Punk going back and forth on the mic would have had Vince seeing dollar signs. It kinda seemed like a no brainer program. Any thoughts as to why this didn't happen or how it would have turned out if it did happen?

I've been wanting and saying this for so long that I can't remember. But honestly,I can't say it anymore because the one or two matches they had on RAW were awful. They just don't seem to have chemistry.
Though, the triple threat with Del Rio was awesome.

I think it's probably that Punk would've turned it down.

I feel like Miz would pretty much have to be a face for this to happen. Agreed. Punk has to be the technically superior "indy smark god" who belittle's Miz's lack of in-ring skills and calls him out for being a wannabe celebrity who just wants to use the WWE as a stepping stone. Miz grew up idolizing the Rock. Who's to say that Miz won't follow in Rock's footsteps by walking out on the business. Since Punk is "self-aware" and would know that people are tired of the "i'm here and you're not" argument, he can use it for heel heat. Miz would be the underdog with limited skills and ability who has to prove his passion, and prove that just because he's a celebrity and he isn't as good as Punk, doesn't mean he has no passion for wrestling. I posted this line in an old thread about Daniel Bryan, and figured it could apply to Punk as well: "You are a joke, Miz. While you were on MTV pretending to be a champion, I was WINNING championships all over the world!!! You are just a reality television reject whose fifteen minutes of fame lasted a bit too long. You see this title? This is for real professional wrestlers, not fake wannabe celebrities. You are nowhere close to being in my league."

Let me tell you something Bryan/Punk, you're not not a victim, you're not poor guy who deserves more. You're self righteous, entitled tool who thinks he's the only WWE superstar who's ever had to work hard at anything, who's ever had to struggle to earn respect. You go on about announcers giving you a hard time, about the evil WWE corporate structure holding you back. But the fact is, since day one that you arrived here there's been a sizable group of people kissing your ass, talking you up about how one of the best in world is here, and how finally there's "real wrestlers" in WWE. And even though you've pissed away whatever support you had, from that very first night on you came here you had people in your corner rooting for you. Me? I had no one. No fans, journalists talking up my skills, no great reputation except for being that reality TV guy. I just had myself. There were people like JBL running me down every chance he got, guys who in the locker room who because I wasn't trained by them or come from an athletics background, thought of me as nothing, all kinds of commentators saying how I'd be gone from this company within a year. But I wasn't. They believed I would fade into nothing on ECW. I became part of the top tag team for two years. Said I'd never make as a singles star. I won the US title. Stated that someone like me would never ever become a world champion. I did. Promised that John Cena would defeat me at Wrestlemania. He didn't. Promised that I would be the Jannetty to John Morrison's Shawn Michaels. Well look who's still here and look who's not. I've made a career out of proving people much smarter than you wrong. They say I'm arrogant? I rose from the very bottom of this company, winning title after title, to the point where I was in the main event of Wrestlemania; you're damn right I'm arrogant. Yet in your eyes, I did it all without the "great" wrestling skills, and you say that's my weakness. But here's the truth you don't want to admit. If I'm not the biggest, fastest, toughest, or smartest man in this ring, then the only way I got here is that I wanted it more than anyone. That I had to bust my ass harder and much longer than any reasonable person would for the chance to prove myself. That's not my weakness Bryan/Punk, that's my strength, and that's why this Sunday, you'll lose. With all of your talents, you expect this job, this belt, the respect of these people to be given to you as if it were just natural. Not in your league? We're not even playing the same game pal, because you expect all of of this, but I? I want it, I need it. And if it means busting my ass 100 times harder than you to get it, I will, because I'm the Miz and I'm... Awesome."

Heel Punk vs Face Miz...where Punk gets huge cheers for any "heelish" comments about Miz being a former celebrity and where Miz gets booed out of the building any time he gets offense.

I get the feeling there are a few people in power who think face Miz is going to be capital H Huge, and they're saving it for the perfect time. There are other people in power who legit dislike Miz because he didn't "pay his dues" the usual way, and they'll try to drag that out as long as they possibly can.
Long story short: Punk/Miz will happen, but it'll be screwed up and undercut and disappointing.
