Said it before and I'll say it again, I could not imagine trying to sit through three straight hours of Raw every single week. Evidently quite a few folks agree. The occasional three hour sit of something, even if it's high-quality, is just exhausting. A show that varies wildly in quality and is on every single week... Yeah.

The final rating number from Meltzer:
"2.8 - really considering the state of the business and the tough competition, the number is fine. "

"Given the state of the business" essentially means 'given how crap WWE is doing'.
So it's far from 'fine' surely?
2.8 would be considered horrendous not so long ago.

Not so long ago Raw was two hours long, the extra hour's going to affect the number a little. How did Raw do in comparison to other cable shows? What was it ranked?

I don't know what Raw's key demo is so I can't give that info, but in terms of 18-49, Football did a 5.2, SportsCenter following football on the same channel did a 1.7, and Raw did a 1.4 for all 3 hours.

I wish they were still giving the rating for each hour and not just the viewers. I am curious how the third hour is (if at all) bringing down the total for all three hours. For example could hours 1 and 2 be getting a 3.3 and hour 3 is dragging it down or something like that. Obviously losing 100k people hurts no matter what but I am just curious the effects on the number itself.

It's low, but they've been dipping below 3 as of late, so it's in "normal low" territory. Their worst number was the first Raw of this month, when they got a whopping 2.5 - the lowest non-holiday Raw in well over a decade.

I think it's a combination of the 3 hours, Monday Night Football, baseball playoffs and the Punk heel turn

I think it's a combination of the 3 hours, Monday Night Football, baseball playoffs and the Punk heel turn Don't forget Dancing with the Stars. There's also probably the fact that the only two titles that matter have been completely stagnant for months. One or the other desperately needs to change hands already.

Hasn't there always been football/playoffs and other sport in addition to programming on the other side?
I'm not sure why 'Something else was on' suddenly becomes an excuse in 2012.

It's been an excuse for Lord knows how long now. "AH! Storage airs season premiere was on, that's why the rating is so low!" It's the Torch's Caldwell's crutch every week.

Big Show opening the show only got a 2.82, lower than most opens? Take the hint, WWE.

The noticable trend was that people barely gave the show an hour before tuning out. The usual masses tuned in midway through the first hour and left in the middle of the second hour. The masses that tune in at the top of the second hour probably tuned out sometime during the third hour. While the First hour masses came back to watch the end.
This is just my assumption but Why is the blame being placed on the format when people probably aren't even sticking around for one full hour? The booking has been fairly decent as of late. Its just that there isn't anything interesting enough to grasp the common viewer.
