Just me personally, but I never take 1 single list on its own. Looking for the "best", I have about 5-10 lists I consult(including this list, Ebert's, AFI's, BFI's, Empire Magazine, etc).
Gives me not only a ton of content, but it cuts through a lot of the biases and shortcomings of lists

A lot of these movies appeal to young males from 18-25. So pretty much the entire internet forum message board community. I just learned not to take the list too seriously but as a resource when you feel like watching a movie you haven't seen before that's suppose to be good.

Crap list. The Godfather movies don't even deserve to be in the top 5, let alone part 2 being as high as it is. However made this list obviously liked "crime" type movies.

And does he fact that they're crime movies somehow negate great writing, acting, and film composition?

I've tried looking, maybe I overlooked it or didn't see it, but one major thing I dislike about this list.

And does he fact that they're crime movies somehow negate great writing, acting, and film composition? That's assuming these top three movies have great writing, acting, and film composition. It is my opinion that the Godfather movies are shit (especially the two sequels), and that Pulp Fiction, while an awesome movie, certainly doesn't belong this high in a "greatest movie ever" list. Again though, it is just my opinion.

We should do our own top list. Maybe not 250 but at least a top 100. Though, we probably did something like that before and I can't remember.

I'd definitely be up for a Top 250 list, but not to sound like an ass, but I think too many people are spoiled on newer movies as opposed to some of the classics. Yes, there's a lot of not that great or dated old movies out there, but if you look around enough, you'll find a TON of great movies more than 50 years old.

yeah, many of our past lists had "really...that movie?" entries on it. Not that variety isn't bad, it's good, but if people are disappointed with IMDB's list, then I doubt a FAN list is going to be unanimously decided upon, or anywhere close.

That's mostly what I watch, and a list of my favorite movies would likely be mostly 50+ years old. Just turn on TCM sometimes. I caught "Portait of Jennie" on there a couple of days ago. I just threw it on because I was bored, and it was fantastic. As far as the bottom 100, movies like Manos are horrible enough as it is that they deserve to be there. And I did watch it without MST3K.

the list seems flawed in that it doesnt appear to take into consideration the number of voters. It's a lot more impressive that Pulp Fiction is number four with 615k votes than it is that the good/bad/ugly is number five with 242k votes x
