www.imdb.com/chart/topI know that any internet list is going to cause controversy, but for discussion sake, how much do you agree with this one? I think the top 3 are pretty hard to debunk, but then it goes downhill fast. I like Pulp Fiction as much as the next guy but it is not worthy of the #4 spot. Don't even get me started on The Avengers being #44.

Most of it is okay with me, of course it's all subjective. But I don't have a problem with Pulp Fiction and #4 since it's my personal favourite film of all-time.

Eh, the top three are incredibly safe, populist choices, especially Shawshank. As it is, the list is pretty shaky anyway since you have to be a member to vote and the gap between most and least amount of votes (782,821 for Shawshank and 9,283 for Harakiri) is patently ridiculous.

Shawshank is not the greatest movie of all time. It's a damn fine movie, but no.

Internet lists are always going to be skewed toward movies that people are consistently told are classics (and many of the people voting haven't seen) and new blockbusters, and ot be honest I don't really agree with much of the list. The Dark Knight, The Matrix, Forest Gump, Pulp Fiction, T2, The Avengers and Toy Story 3 may all be fine movies in their own right, but I don't think I'd have and of them in the top 50 of mine (if at all). Casablanca would be much higher, Pulp Fiction and Shawshank much lower.
This is the list that had Serenity in the top 100 for a while, IIRC.

I've seen just about every movie on that list, with the exception of about 10. One of the problems I have is the campaigns that people have to get a movie put on there, so you constantly see a lot of movies that have been made within the last 5 years or so on there. There's a LOT of movies on there that I would not put on there...even if they are great movies, I wouldn't put them on the greatest list of all time. Trainspotting should NOT be on there.

While of course no list is the final say on anything, the IMDB 250 is certainly a good thing to scan if you want to check out something good that you haven't seen before.

I'm actually kind of amazed that TDK has managed to stay in the top ten for four years despite the internet backlash against it.

Scarface is a much worse choice than Trainspotting.

^It depends on your preference. I felt Trainspotting was pretty damn bad. Just another self absorbed over indulgent movie about druggies. No thanks. Not that I think Scarface is a work of art or anything.
I remember seeing the Spielberg curriculum list that supposedly suggests that anyone who wants to get into movies should watch. Well, thinking it was a good list, I set out to watch everything that I hadn't seen already. And I'd say about 1/6 of the movies are complete crap. There's plenty of good ones too, but I think other movies get a pass because of a certain director or actor was a part of them. Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando and Rod Steiger got a LOT of passes for just mediocre movies. So yes, everyone's tastes are different.

I still always see everyone gushing over it. I only glanced over the list, but I don't understand how Batman Begins makes it. I thought that was boring as hell.

At least people can argue about TDK. I'm not a fan but I'd rather have a film that starts discussion and isn't particularly "safe" than something like Shawshank, which is a great film but not a particularly innovative or thought provoking one. I don't think I've meet a single person who didn't like the Shawshank Redemption and I don't feel that's a compliment.

Hell, even the RedLetterMedia guys have said it's one of their most requested reviews.

I've fully watched 28 films on that list. Some I've seen some of but not the whole of.

I think it also works like Twitter Trends. Like in at #157 is a 2009 film called 'The Secret In Their Eyes' a film from Argentina. When this film came out it like shot up into the top 50. It's a good film, but it's not really that memorable in my opinion. But it's probably memorable in it's home country of Argentina where Argentinean IMDB members gave it a lot of 9 and 10 stars. www.imdb.com/title/tt1305806/In the other case and this is for the Bottom 100, I think the IMDB community just gang up on a movie. Seriously look at this list: www.imdb.com/chart/bottomAnd how many of these have you actually heard of before reading it? Seriously look at the number of votes. One movie has just over 1,500 votes: www.imdb.com/title/tt0415345/Anyone heard of it?

I wonder how many of the Manos votes were from people who have actually seen Manos, and how many are from the MST3K episode. Or, hell, how many of #1 came from the Nostalgia Critic review?
