Or all of it.
What are some examples? I thought I had heard that Shinedown's vocalist Brent Smith composed most of the music, but I could be wrong in that.

Billy Corgan pretty much IS The Smashing Pumpkins. Always was and continues to be, no matter how much people bitch and moan about him being the sole original member left.

Really, most bands are like this. Even in bands where all the members contribute songs, there is usually one member who is the primary songwriter/composer. A lot of times people assume that this person is also the lead singer, and that is the case sometimes but certainly not always.

Jem Godfrey of Frost*. He composes all of the music, and only gets some of the best guys in British Prog to play what he wrote. But, damn does he write some good stuff.

The Misfits have had this happen twice, with two different members:
1977-83: Glenn Danzig.
With their most recent album: Jerry Only.
With the Ramones, just about everything came from Joey and/or Dee Dee. Dee Dee even wrote some songs for them after he left the band.

quite a few of the bands I listen to, actually. after the first few albums, Chuck Schuldiner fired the rest of Death (seriously, they tried touring without him ) and ever since then he wrote all their music and the rest of the band were mostly just there for session/live purposes. I was also surprised to learn that Steve Asheim (the drummer) writes all the music for Deicide.

I hate him and find him incredibly boring, but Bon Iver is basically just the singer doing all the work.
