WrestleMania 7.
Did this match have a backstory or was it just there as something to show Undertaker's dominance?

No, it didn't have a backstory. Just like you said, a match to show how dominate the Undertaker was.
It's interesting that back then they called Snuka "The Phenom". A nickname that would be given to the Undertaker.

Pretty much just a match. Lot of those matches in the undercards of Wrestlemanias back in the day, just two guys. Grappling.

they had a decent match at MSG before Wrestlemania 7 with Heenan totally putting over The Undertaker on commentary.

Although the match was quick, it wasn't bad with Snuka jumping all over the place for Taker.
What about Sid vs. The Undertaker, did Taker win a #1 contenders match for that?

Grappling. yeah even though the matches were short i kinda miss that old formula a lot of guys on the card, plus a lot more matches, made mania feel like more of a wrestling extravaganza, and the "featured" matches seem more important.

Yeah, sometimes I wish they'd bring back the odd filler match for Wrestlemania.

What about Sid vs. The Undertaker, did Taker win a #1 contenders match for that? Nope, it was just announced after Final Four that Taker would be getting a shot at the WWF Title, no matter who the champion was. It was used as part of Bret's "whining" story where he complained about Taker being handed a title shot while he kept getting screwed.

As has been said it was just a regular match. I like these type of matches as it makes the real grudge matches of the card seem more important. It was a 'treat' to see two superstars battle each other in itself.
I'm not sure if any of these matches had a back story
Rockers vs The Barbarian and Haku Dino Bravo vs Texas Tornado Mountie vs Tito Santana Undertaker vs Jimmy Snuka Hart Foundation vs Nasty Boys British Bulldog vs Warlord Demolition vs Tenyru and Katao Earthquake vs Greg Valentine
The only matches with a backstory I can recall are Warrior/Savage, DiBiase/Virgil, LOD/Power & Glory, Bossman/Perfect, Jake/Martel and of course Slaughter/Hogan.
Packed card though 14 matches

they had a decent match at MSG before Wrestlemania 7 with Heenan totally putting over The Undertaker on commentary. - Loved it when Heenan compared the young 'Taker to Andre. - You couldn't have chosen a greater talent to put 'Taker over at this stage of his WWE run. Again, Heenan spoke the kayfabe truth when he said that if you defeat Jimmy Snuka (even as a JTTS in his early 90's run was touted as a legend) in the middle of the ring at MSG, then you are a force to be reckoned with.

Packed card though 14 matches The Bulldog and Warlord had been doing a "who's the stronger man?" feud on house shows ever since the Bulldog returned to the WWF the previous fall. Their WrestleMania match was meant to be the blow-off to the feud, although they'd continue to work programs together for about the next year whenever the WWF didn't have anything else for the Bulldog to do. Greg Valentine had been in a feud with Jimmy Hart and his men (mostly Dino Bravo) since Valentine seperated from Hart and turned face the previous December. Earthquake was meant to be the culmination of that feud (similar to how Mr. Perfect was meant to the be the culmination of the Big Boss Man's feud with the Heenan Family).

Bret and The Anvil held the tag belts at the time. I seem to remember Jimmy Hart's former association w/ the Foundation being touted as an advantage for the Nastys. It looks like the booking was done to take the belts off of the Hart Foundation and onto the Nastys who were then going to fed to Animal and Hawk.

Yea I still remember the Tornado/Bravo match when I was little because they both died a few years later within a month of each other. I believe Joey Marella reffed that match and he died a few years later as well. Any match where everybody is dead a few years later is creepy

It's Wrestlemania incidentally had the best 'Vince voice' version of the Wrestlemania intro of all time.
Indeed the whole intro was immense.
It's WRAAASSSSSAAAALMANIAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

Nastys won a battle royal for the tag title shots.
