I just remembered this and while i'm not a fan of the show anymore, this episode to me was really cool particularly all the other wrestlers that were involved.
What is your take on it looking back now?

Despite SNL being a sinking ship at the time, this was THE highlight of the year and probably the last time I really laughed during SNL. I would go so far as to say for his first time, The Rock nailed it and is one of the best hosts ever. My favorite had to be Nic Catrol. He'll beat the shit out of you if you smoke.

I think he knocked it out of the park. Everything was hilarious, Bigfoot and Neil Diamond, Superman, the aforementioned Nicontrol... And the other guys did great in their cameos, especially Big Show.

I thought his second appearance was even better - he was a lot more comfortable as an actor by then.

How many times has he hosted? I read the thread title and had trouble remembering which appearance it was.

How many times has he hosted? I read the thread title and had trouble remembering which appearance it was. 3 times actually - the first in 2000 that people are talking about here, the most recent in 2009 (where I thought he was even better and a more natural performer) - and then I guess there was one in the middle that I'm not familiar with.

Having Vince, Trips, Mick, and Show there too was great.

These are the only eps of SNL I ever watched. I didn't really care for his 2nd appearance as I don't remember anything from it.
and yes Nicotrel was hilarious

Wasn't a huge fan of his workrate at that time but thought he was satisfactory hosting SNL which hadn't been funny since the 1970's.

I happened to record both episodes when they gave them on the E! channel earlier this year.

Vince, HHH, Mick, and Big Show knocked it out of the park as well, especially Show. The Rock has been one of the best host in the last 12 years. I think this was the main impetus for his acting career.

I thought the workrate of most of the SNL cast was solid during this time period, with the exception of Jimmy Fallon, who would blow up right in the middle of the sketch.

Remember when Cena hosted? Oh right, he only had a cameo as a security guard.

Remember when Cena hosted? Oh right, he only had a cameo as a security guard. But it was excellent. Coincidentally, that was the best episode that season.

While The Rock was great in that episode, my favorite bit from it is the ad for Uncle Jemima's Sour Mash Liquor.
"What you swattin at?"

Nic Cotrel still makes me laugh every time I see it. probably one of the most underrated SNL skits.
