I noticed when Punk gave the top-rope elbow that he had plenty of room to perform the move off the top rope. That may be the reason. For top rope moves.

I remember during the Orton vs Undertaker Hell in a cell Orton almost hitting his head on the top of the cell doing a top rope move. And I believe that was the last of the smaller Hell in a Cell matches

2006 Unforgiven was the debut of the 'new' HIAC. The old one had huge holes on the sides in, and definitely was in need of repair. I think the Ryback/Punk spot was the second bump done on the top of that Cell: In 2009, the RAW before HIAC, Cena dropped Orton with an AA on top. I thought the holes were so the wrestlers could climb up if it called for it. The holes were for cameras

Wikipedia says that the original cage was 16 feet tall and weighed over two tons. At some point it grew to 20 feet and now weighs five tons. 4 extra feet adds 3 tons? Whaaaaa?

They also changed the support system for the cell and added a part at the 10' mark where the cell splits into 2 sections so there is a lot more steel in this one than the previous.

I never liked the new cell, the old structure was the perfect size. It's not like they were doing 450 splashes with the old cell, no one was actually ever injured hitting the roof of the cell.
The new one only looks cool when the wrestlers are on the roof (which only happened last night?) other than that, it looks ridiculous when they're wrestling in the ring.

This maybe nit-picking, but when Undertaker gave Michaels a backbodydrop at Badd Blood, HBK's feet the roof at such a certain angle that if the mark was missed slightly, Shawn was have been paralyzed.
