gotta love WWE putting so much emphasis on a guy who can't even be there every week.
I think it's hilarious that WWE deluded themselves into thinking he was being serious when he said "I'm back for good".

To be fair, if you consider Rock's interpretation of "never going away" he was telling the truth. He's not there every week, but it's far more often than it was before last year. But yeah, I can just imagine how well Punk would react to being told he's losing the title to The Rock. From pics that they've posted, Punk and Rock seem to be friends but watching his DVD makes me wonder.

yeah and Hogan after Wrestlemania 9 did wonders for the company *sarcasm detector goes off the charts and explodes*
edit: don't get me wrong, Rocky's one of my favorites of all time, I love when he comes back, but I'm starting more and more to feel the inherent stupidity of giving him the title when he clearly won't be there very often. hell, Punk's pretty much had to do ALL the work promoting their inevitable match. not saying it's the Rock's fault, he's a very busy guy with his film career, it's just silly how poorly this match has been built. if The Rock isn't going to be there to feud with Punk it's stupid for Punk to turn heel when there's no credible face for him to feud with in the interim.

I'd rather Rock have the title than Punk or Cena at this point, but all the same, I'm really eager for him to go away again. If only because with him and Lesnar around WWE seem to have convinced themselves that no one besides the two of them and Cena matters and that they'll be perfectly fine so long as they keep relying on only them.

I never said that he did, I was just arguing that the Rock wouldn't be the first. Anyway, if Rock were going to win the title, then he and Vince would have had to come to some sort of agreement about the appearances he'll be making. Rock wouldn't be able to take the title if he weren't prepared to fulfill at least some of the obligations that come with being champion.

The Rock had the title won the second he announced the Rumble match.

Now, now I wonder if WWE will change something up to make the match seem somewhat unpredictable.
I remember about 70% of fans back in January penciled in Jericho to win the Rumble.

To be honest it's not a lot of work.
To be the 'focal point of the company' you need really to only work once a week. Twice on PPVs but there's no reason he couldn't do other things as well.

No I'm just of the stance that if he can't work a few house shows as well, then he doesn't deserve the hold the title.

The best actor gets the job and if he can't make it a few scenes but is worth the hassle of having to write things around him, cool. Rock being the champion makes a big spectacle out of the whole thing and that's what wrestling is about. Personally I don't think 'deserve' comes into it at all.
