Jack in the Box and not because of the E. coli outbreak. I don't eat there because when we first got one in my town I went and got a milk shake. I then also got diarrhea..... Had a similar case with Burger King; got violently ill from, what I presume, was a poorly cooked chicken sandwich. It was a one-off thing, though: I've eaten there since and haven't gotten sick.

Wasn't the point in the original post that these are places you've been to since and realized it was not so bad? In which case, virtually no one is on topic. Unless we're threadjacking, I guess.

Arby's for me. I used to hate it when I was younger but I hate roast beef. A couple years ago when I worked at Lowe's,there was an Arby's right next to it and I broke down and decided to give it another chance. I noticed they had chicken strips so I decided to have those and I thought they were tremendous. So Arby's has won me back.

the only time I avoid places is because of bad service or employees being outright jerks. and both of those places are now out of business.

Hardee's in the 90's was garbage. In fact,it was one of the worst places to eat. They've dramatically turned their business around and is easily the best to eat of the "big 4". Ironically, Wendy's was the best place to go in the 90's and is now the worst place to go. I ranked McDonalds 2nd in the 90's and they're now 3rd. Burger King was 3rd and is now 2nd. So basically, everything is the exact opposite of what it was 15 years ago.
Domino's pizza sucked ass for the longest time. It's still not the best, but it's edible. Growing up in the south, it wasn't as bad as it is up north.
The first time I ate at Ryan's steakhouse, I got sick. Strangely enough, we started eating there as a family every Sunday after church for like 3 years straight after that. Then we just stopped going without any incident. They're okay...I liked their mac and cheese.
And it's not so much that I hated it, but didn't get the big thrill about a place called Quinton's. I didn't think it was special the first time, so I didn't go again until last week. This time instead of getting a generic avocado chicken sandwich I got last time, I ordered a burger that has cream cheese on it. It was amazing!!! They also had sweet potato fries that were also amazing. I wish I was there right now.
As for a place that I've given multiple chances to without them redeeming themselves? Arby's. Arby's has always sucked, no matter how many chances I've given. The meat is always dry and buns taste stale. How the hell do they stay in business? Worst roast beef ever.

Joe's Crab shack-First of all it sounds too much like crab shag. Second the place looks like shady stuff happens. Third, the food is kinda whack. Cheesecake samplers shouldn't have a half inch of juice in the box. Care to elaborate? The two times I went there it looked too dirty and dark to be open, let alone making money. If the folks are willing to make condiment trays out of wine cooler boxed, anything can happen. I use to avoid Arby's like the plague because I [aid $20.00 of $10.00 worth of food. I gave them another chance when they got a dollar menu. I don't trust their shakes.

KFC until my South Africa trip when we stopped at one while traveling between camps, I found it great over there. Although it was also distressing to see how popular it was, all stereotypes come from somewhere I guess.

KFC usually cause I always feel sick after eating there. Was it those popcorn chicken/mini-bite things, by any chance? Pretty sure I got sick off those several years ago, which is when I stopped going. My most recent visit was good, but I avoided those things and went for the regular bucket chicken. It was other those or those mini sandwiches called snackers that did that to me.

Not purposefully, but this Chinese buffet near here that I went to about 7 years ago, didn't go back even though it was real nice, went a couple of weeks ago, it was amazing! Awesome food and all you can eat, no complaints here!

I worked at a Subway while I was in high school. It was years before I ate at one again after quitting. The smell of the place would just make me sick.
I also worked at a KFC, and after seeing things 'behind the scenes', I can't bring myself to eat there again.

TGI Fridays-The food costs too much com paired to the way it tastes. I'm also scared of the ducks that hang out in front of the restaurant. I'm not getting pecked because some ducks want a Jack Daniels burger. Joe's Crab shack-First of all it sounds too much like crab shag. Second the place looks like shady stuff happens. Third, the food is kinda whack. Cheesecake samplers shouldn't have a half inch of juice in the box. Now I'm wondering where you live, where ducks hang out at TGIFridays and drug deals happen in the back of Joe's Crab Shacks.

I've been doing a bang up job avoiding the following restaurants for years:
Druthers Burger Chef Carrols Red Barn Sandy's
The following restaurants I have not gone to in decades (i.e., since I last spent significant time in the Pacific Northwest)
Arctic Circle Burgerville, USA

There, they hang out in front of Subway and try to eat Swagger's sandwiches.

the only time I avoid places is because of bad service or employees being outright jerks. and both of those places are now out of business. That's mostly the case for me (Miami Subs, Fuddrucker's....) I did avoid Wendy's for a long time- probably because of the urban legend that their burgers were made with dogfood.
