Who would be interested insomething like this? Basically, it'd be MMA with pro wrestling rules. Limited striking, no chokes, no submissions past the natural range of motion, the ability to leave the ring for a 10 count, and most importantly, the ability to win by pinfall.
The rules are quite different these days from when Pro Wrestling was mostly legit. I think it'd be quite a bit more exciting than the interminable 3 hour barely-move fests of the early 20th century. It's basically my dream sport. I do something similiar in the back yard with freinds.
What's everyone's opinion on this? Think it'd be a good idea? A bad one? Why?

Only if I can have my buddies jump my opponent and have them spray paint "NWO" on their back.

They've done this in Japan. know they've done similiar stuff, like Pancrasse, but never anything that allowed pins as far as I know. lus Pancrasse changed lots of other rules too. Rope Breaks lost you points, they had rounds, etc.

If people nowadays want to watch MMA influenced pro wrestling, they would just watch UFC.
Shoot based promotions in Japan were the rage before real MMA promotions popped up and rendered them useless.

Heh. UWF/UWFI-i/KINGDOM/BattlArts....
If it gets rid of the man-on-man spooning sessions...

The original UWF originally allowed pins but got rid of them. They are probably what you are looking for. Battlarts also allowed pins but was a little more in the wrestling direction.
UWFi's best stuff was the Big Van Vader vs Nobuhiko Takada series. Really awesome stuff. Victor Zangiev was a beast there as well and Kazuo Yamazaki was good too. Pancrase's best stuff was Masakatsu Funaki vs Bas Rutten and Ken Shamrock. RINGS had good stuff with Andrei Kopylov, Volk Han and Kiyoshi Tamura.

So just MMA with a count out or pin fall?
I personally wouldn't be interested for a few reasons. First, people would be leaving the ring all the time to exploit the ten count. That would get old after a while. Second, I remember it being hard enough to score a one count in amateur wrestling so a three count would probably take forever.

Meh. Three counts in amateur wrestling aren't that hard. Just wear down your opponent and use an effective pinning hold. If you hook a leg, hook the head, lock your hands, and roll them onto their shoulders, they won't get out. Just like how Hogan pinned Iron Sheik.

I'v checked that out, but the rules are too different for me to get into it. Rounds, teams, points, instant contact pins, it's just too different.

In my experience it is one of those things that sounds awesome, but then it just doesn't turn out that way. Anyone looking for something like this should probably just watch MMA.

I'll also mention UWFi as being pretty close to what you're suggesting. It's a shame that's not around anymore though.
