WWE's got to be happy with a buyrate being up without Cena being in a match.

Yeah that's better than many were predicting. Also just so people know that international rate doesn't include the UK.

Yeah, that's a half truth. WWE, for the first time since 2003, only had one PPV between the September PPV and Survivor Series, so it's only natural for the number of buys to go up.

It also went head-to-head with:
Denver Broncos vs New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football (Peyton Manning vs. Drew Brees)
and
Game 4 of the World Series
That's stiffer than usual competition, and still a very good buyrate.
WWE will rightly take this as an indication that Ryback belongs in the main event scene.

So really - there's nothing you can gauge from this # unfortunately.
Less that 2010, but more than 2011 by a margin of 10K could be attributed to so many things - but having Punk v (someone not Cena/Del Rio) definitely couldn't hurt.

I think you can gauge a lot from the fact that Ryback/Punk headlined a show without Cena and didn't lose buys.

But, I know the WWE isn't on life support like it was then.

The lack of another October pay-per-view and six months to build to it certainly couldn't have hurt.
It's still a good number for a show with a main event featuring a guy suddenly shoved into the main event, and suggests that maybe Punk can headline pay-per-views on his own, but it's hardly been handicapped like last year's event. It should have done well.

The "Will Ryback's streak or Punk's historic title reign continue" angle built into the main event was excellent. It might not seem like it now, but at the time, it seemed like it was DEFINITELY worth buying just because of the unpredictability. Perfect example of a long-term heel champion being a draw because of people wanting to see if he'll lose it, and a red-hot monster babyface being hotshotted to the main event with people wondering if they'll actually give him the title.
