First celebrity death in my lifetime that ever really left me feeling saddened and shaken up.
But since George wouldn't want people feeling sad for him...
(bonus since it doubles as a John tribute)
Namaste, "Quiet One".

Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem like it has been that long.

Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem like it has been that long. Same here. I still remember the photos of Ringo and Paul walking into the church as if it was WAY less than 11 years ago. Then again, high school doesn't seem like 20 years ago, but there we are....

I will always thing "Something" is the greatest love song ever. It was the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding, then we got the honor of hearing Paul play it live at a concert in tribute to George. Such a beautiful song. R.I.P. George.

My favorite and in my opinion the most talented Beatle. His spiritual journey is every bit as interesting as his musical journey.

And that's the All-Star tribute. That's also for one Mr. Billy Preston, who'd meet his sweet lord a few years later.

How about a great song that most people missed?
Stuck Inside a Cloud was Track 7 on his last album which his son Dhani and Jeff Lynne finished for him based on his meticulous notes that he made for them. According to Dhani George always placed his favorite song on an album as the 7th track, so the fact that he wanted this song in that spot meant that it was his favorite amongst his final farewell to his fans. "Any Road," "Marwa Blues," and "Rising Sun" were nice, but I agree with George. I love this song.

Doesn't seem that long ago, honestly. But, I clearly remember the headline the Chicago Sun-Times did in his honor. A simple black-and-white picture of the Beatles walking, with the simple headline: "Bye, George".
To think, in an era when the war on terror was on the rise - not far removed from 9/11 - the paper shelved the screaming headlines on all the scary news to give thanks for one of the most-beloved musicians in recent memory.

Much of the appeal of George Harrison extends far beyond his music, which was wonderful in its own right. As said before, the man's spiritual journey, his humanitarian worldview, his willingness to shirk the limelight for what he perceived to be the betterment of whatever he was involved with, and his simple pursuit of what made him happy (i.e. starting up Hand Made Films and getting to finance Monty Python projects), it all added up to a recipe for satisfaction and happiness that perhaps the world would be better for heeding.
Also, the man knew good comedy.
