Queen gave their legendary performance at Live Aid, which has been cited as one of the greatest live performances in music of all time.

Freddie had that whole crowd in the palm of his hand. A true rock god.

The funny thing here being Queen had been shit and a failure (by comparison) for basically, the whole 1980s by this point, and then this performance took them into the stratosphere. They became rock legends rather than just a once great band still going.

They became rock legends rather than just a once great band still going. Yeah. Their last big single was "Radio Ga Ga", which was like more than a year before Live Aid, and before that was "Under Pressure", which was in '81. They weren't as hot in the '80s as they were in the '70s. They had something to prove again, and that resulted in their performance at Live Aid.
