As in, why's he been made so important to DC over the last few years? He was a mainstay of the Teen Titans for several years, I get that. But why's he been pushed so much to the fact they've made him a corner stone of the Justice League? Were they just desperate to have a young black character as part of their major team that they went for him by picking a name out of a hat? I haven't read current comics in a while and my exposure to the character largely comes from the show which was average at best to me. What was I missing?

This is pretty much the most popular theory. They took a B-list(and that's being generous) character, and shoehorned him onto the Justice League in order to give off the bare minimum appearance of diversity.

At least with Cyborg, he was a part of the Justice League (sorta) on the cartoon Galactic Guardians way back in the 80's. What I wanna know is, why the f*** is Luke Cage suddenly commander and chief of every major Marvel super hero group. At least Cyborg is/was a B-lister...Cage didn't even qualify as a D lister before his push to the friggin' moon.

Cyborg has always been awesome though, so I have no problems with him getting a bigger role.
Plus, don't overlook the Smallville factor, as he was in a few episodes of that, and DC was likely courting some of the crowd that had watched the show, but hadn't really read comics. Including him might have had something to do with that.
I also disagree about Cage being not even a D lister. He was probably never on the top of anyone's list, but he has had titles both in he seventies and early nineties, and this 'push' actually began pretty slowly in the pages of Alias nearly a decade back. I can maybe agree that his spot may've become too prominent for his character development, but it wasn't like an all at once deal.

It's good to have a character that may not be a main eventer in the world of comics to be on the all star team every once and awhile. It changes things up.

I wish they had bumped Cyborg up before Flashpoint. He was at that level, and the character was so deep (but that's Johns' writing for you.)
Luke has grown on me, he gives a sort of "I have no idea why I'm here, but if these people wanna do the right thing, we're all in it together" vibe.

Johns may just have a hard-on for Cyborg too. He did use him in his Flash run and his relaunched Teen Titans. Never under-estimate a writer with basically unlimited power just liking a guy. Look at Hal.

Vic has always been an awesome character, great design and background, so I have no issue. Also, I'm a massive fan of the Wolfman/Perez NTT run, so I'm always happy to see them get the step up. Frankly, I think that the main line-up should be the Justice League, with the big guns as associate members for facing big threats.

Personally, I'd have rather had Raven get the main event push. But then again, I'd like to have Raven show up in the New52 at all. Cyborg's okay, though.
