Phantom Hourglass. Having the touch screen do EVERYTHING just killed it for me.

Most people who criticise OOT do so because the core mechanics feel somewhat dated compared to the later 3d games, but I would still argue that it's better game than any of them, if only because there's very little that feels like filler. No pointlessly long tutorial section, no boring scavenger hunts or fetch quests between dungeons, cutscenes are relatively short, etc. The whole thing just flows at a really good pace. Plus the game is actually, y'know, challenging. It doesn't feel the need to hold your hand through everything. That's what really bugs me about the newer games. They're just so bloated trying to turn them into long, high-stakes epics that they forget to just be fun. I'd rather a game like OoT, which is really fairly if you know what you're doing, than something like Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword where I'm expected to go for twenty to forty hours mostly slogging through the story and stupid fetch quests thrown in solely to slow you down. Doesn't help that Nintendo seems to think in recent years that people are more interested in things outside of dungeons. Much better when you had to do one or two things, as opposed to walking around doing nothing for an hour then wandering around the same area a second time looking for five parts of a key to get into the dungeon so you can start having fun.

I find Phantom Hourglass easier to play than Ocarina of time on the N64, luckily the 3DS version finally made it playable.
Poor Spirit Tracks I seem to be the only person that loved that games, it fixed most of the issues with Phantom Hourglass and the dynamic with Zelda is fantastic with loads of humorous moments, I can see why people wouldn't like the trains though, it is a pain in the ass until you’ve restored most of the tracks.

Phantom Hourglass. I hated the controls and I hated having to go back to the same temple over and over again.

Skyward Sword for the simple fact after giving it all the chances in the world and despite playing for hours on end and defeating around 4 or 5 temples, it was still boring as hell.
I have never been that bored playing a Zelda game.
