I'm betting there are little pockets of Koreans viewing it all day on ten Windows each, just to pad the numbers

I've seen it and don't get the big deal. The song isn't good or entertaining and the video isn't all that funny. To you.

This song is dumb but the video rocks . Shows you what a good video can do.

I've seen it and don't get the big deal. The song isn't good or entertaining and the video isn't all that funny. I'm baffled by its popularity. I'm with you. I watched the video after hearing several people talk about it. It was also the first time I had heard the song. I was not impressed by either but to each their own.

Why would you not want to see something that's a gigantic phenomenon? It's like 4 minutes, and would let you be part of the conversation as to whether you liked it or not.

I have sadly seen the dance done to the actual song now. But not the video, thank god. Even still, watching people doing it... just... no. They looked like idiots, and the song itself is still terrible.

I had worked in music for a long time. This is one of the few songs over the past few years I actually do understand the hype for.
Not saying I like it. But I get it. It is easy to digest. The lyrics aren't stupid when you can't understand them. The beat is decent. If you know about the lyrics, it makes fun of the rich. It is also kind of self aware of what it is.
There are a handful of reasons to like it or tolerate it. Not so many reasons to hate it. It isn't like "Call Me Maybe" that is so easy to hate because of the lyrics. It kind of exists in a grey area, that can lead to great success.

I don't understand the attempt to shelter oneself from it. It's like someone bragging they went well out of their way to not find out who shot J.R., or see Princess Diana's wedding or funeral. There is no prize for living in a bubble.

I'm betting there are little pockets of Koreans viewing it all day on ten Windows each, just to pad the numbers I don't know for sure, but I don't think PSY commands the same type of fanbase as all the "idol" boybands and girl groups. Those groups, for sure, have fans that do that.

I don't know about the others in this thread but earlier when I said I am not part of the viewer count I was referring specifically to youtube. I have seen parts of the video on tv and saw a bit of PSY's performance at I think it was the Mtv EMA's.
I just don't feel it's necessary to watch something just because everyone else has.
From what I have seen I don't like it but I don't dislike it either. I really don't have an issue with it either way. On a side note, I'm happy for the success PSY has become and that he has managed to take the Western market when so many other Asian singers struggle.

There is no prize for living in a bubble. Exactly. In the end, it's all subjective. I like this song and video a lot. Some don't. I think some of the things that groups here like is beyond ridiculous, other don't. That's the beauty of opinions. I just try not to be a dick about it....most of the time. I wanted to add that some people go out of their way to not like something that's popular in order to seem "cool". Not saying anyone here is doing that in this case, but it does go on here sometimes.

There is no prize for living in a bubble. A billion times this. If you haven't seen the video (which is FREE to watch), you can't have a real opinion of it.

There is no prize for living in a bubble. There's no prize for watching the video either. It's just a youtube video. I have nothing to gain from watching or not watching it. I don't care either way. I still have no desire to watch it. Comparing some random video on the internet to actual events with some degree of importance isn't going to suddenly make this matter to me.

Comparing some random video on the internet to actual events with some degree of importance isn't going to suddenly make this matter to me. Fair point. However, some people (not just with this recent craze, either) make it a point for everybody else to know that they don't condone it and they're damn proud of it. I think it's a natural reaction for some people to rebel against something that has a positive general consensus, but some people can be such wet blankets, especially with something that's just meant for fun such as "Gangnam Style". If some take pride in the fact that they haven't seen the video, that's fine - but some people seem to choose that stance just to spite the people that are having fun with it. "Oh, you're having fun with this? Well I'll have you know that I've never watched it - and even if I had it probably wouldn't be that good or funny anyway. Hrmph!"
