So I have been following ProtonJon's Let's Play of a Super Mario romhack called Notte Luminosa. He started it because it creator claimed to be dying of leukemia and said that he would have liked to see his romhack Let's Played at least once before dying. Some people found it fishy, but what the Hell, PJ decided to do it. And won't you know it, it turns out the hack's creator faked the whole thing and in fact got a job AND started college a couple days before supposedly dying (he claimed to have only one or two weeks left to live when he posted about his alleged cancer).
So, aside from the obvious moral implication of faking having cancer for attention... why would you ever do such a thing? You know people will find out you've been lying when you don't actually die. Do these people expect others to buy the miraculous recovery explanation? Do they actually intent to fake their own death? I don't know, the reward doesn't seem to be worth the eventual punishment (because in that case, it's not a case of "if" people find out, it's "when" they find out) so I must ask: why on Earth would anyone do that?

Ask the WWE Creative member who thought it would be a good storyline of Alex Riley faking cancer for sympathy. Also aww nice a IASIP reference in this thread.
