If he was a heel he'd be doing an amazing job. I want to go to a show and boo him loudly.

How did Miz get over as a heel? By being an obnoxious douchebag, and all they're doing is making him be a douchebag against heels instead. For once they're not watering down an act once they turn them face - it's not going to win over anybody who hated him before, admittedly, but those already on the bandwagon and the crowds seem to like where it's going. Except that now, instead of being a pretentious jerk who's all into himself, he's pandering to crowds and sucking up to other faces and just acting like some dude on the campaign trail trying way too hard to get everyone to like him. He always pandered to crowds though. His catchphrases are built around pandering. There is a little bit more overt playing to the crowd, but that comes with being a face, but they're not stripping anything away from him. As has been noted, they're actually turning up the douchiness a notch.

I don't want to make people think I like or support the character, just explaining the justification for it, IMO. I think it's gonna work. The audience they're shooting for is far different than the audience posting here, then again, who knows, less and less people watch every week.

This is the character they try to foist onto guys like Sheamus and it doesn't work on them. Miz, on the other hand is perfect for it.

^Because kids aren't going to put 2 + 2 together and realize what it means. Yeah, but all the people that slam the WWE are adults, and they most likely know what it means and know it's certainly not PG.

How is "massive douchebag" supposed to be a face gimmick? But is that the only reason we're supposed to cheer for him? Is being an annoying horses ass, but doing it only to heels, enough of a schtick for the fans to cheer? Guess this guy never existed then...

Everyone wanting the "honorable face" thing makes no sense. When's the last time they booked an "honorable face" type top face, one of Bret Hart's earlier runs before he went edgy and then heel?
Pretty much every face since then, that had a personality, was a dick.

The Miz and the character of Stone Cold Steve Austin are so far removed it's unbelievable. Stone Cold was an absolute terror, an explosive, dangerous anti hero and an iconoclastic thorn in the side of the man, who culturally at the right place at the right time. The Miz is a less likeable Barney Stinson.

Guess this guy never existed then... Exactly. Miz ain't doing nothing Austin, and Rock were not doing. The only difference being that the heels of their time were truly hatable bastards, be they Vince, Triple H, or Rock and Austin themselves at different times, that actually got the upper hand a fair bit during their feuds. The heels of today are, in general, no more douchey than the faces they're fighting, but get hamstrung by the face-dominated booking. In the end, it's the people who are the heels getting the face sympy for being the underdogs, while the faces get all the contempt for getting away with being jerks AND winning most of the time too.

Austin's character waz that of a badass that took no shit, and was rebelling against people that kept tryin to screw him over.
The Miz is doing a bad Ace Ventura rip off. Worse than Joker Sting's was.

I would liken Miz to The Rock or Chris Jericho rather than Austin. Those guys are the prototype to what WWE tries to make its faces. It doesn't work for Sheamus, it sort of works for Cena, it worked for Edge & Christian (post AE) when they were allowed to showcase their humorous side, but Miz fits this role to a tee.

Miz would be okay if the writers gave him better material.
Yes: He should be an obnoxious, smug douchebag. It works for him.
Sadly, the material he is been given utterly sucks. If he was given better material and better jokes then he would work.

My god, did I hate that entire segment last night. I don't hate Miz, but if he's going to try to be funny then he's gotta work on his delivery and timing.
