So my old laptop backpack has given up the ghost somewhat concurrently with my old laptop, as the torn fabric, stretched straps, and exposed foam attest, and I'm in the market for a new one.
My old one was a Lenovo Thinkpad backpack that came with my old computer and worked well for what it was, and I definitely got some serious mileage out of it, but it definitely wasn't the most ergonomic backpack nor necessarily the most functional.
I'm looking for something that'll cradle a 14" with extended battery laptop well, and still both be secure and have enough space for school books and such, and won't get torn to shreds from being, say, jammed under airplane seats or such.
Anybody got any pointers?

well, i'd go with one that has some sort of pocket(s). that way, you'll be able to store stuff in it without it falling out. also, you might want to invest in one with a strap so you'd be able to carry it around without having to hold it in your hands all the time.

High Sierra makes some damn fine backpacks with space for a lappy. That is what I use for my laptop and my work pack( I work out doors, it takes a beating and outside of some elastic pockets on the outside, it is fine 5 years later). They also tend to be ergonomic with good straps and support.

I got a Swissgear backpack back when I started Uni ('08) and I'm still a long, long way from finding a replacement for mine. The laptop compartment is very well padded and leaves more than enough room for anything else you need to pack.
