Or a job chat rather. Here is a run down of what happened.
Basically, I spent the whole weekend just thinking about that interview. However, when I talked to the guy on Wednesday he said to call him Monday for a talk and never said the word, "interview." It is for a reporting position in New York, which I really, really, REALLY want to get back to.
The whole thing lasted about three minutes. He just asked me some questions about my background, if I could move to New York, if I'd be willing to work odd hours, etc. He also said I was an "attractive candidate" because of my background. He said that they'd call me back in a few days and that they had other candidates.
I cannot help, but always fixate on the worst and this is no different. I'm expecting to get a call or e-mail in a few days saying they went with someone else. Still, I just want this job so badly as it would work perfectly for me, I know I'd be great at it and it would get me out of my current situation (a super crappy room and a decent enough job, but not one that involves reporting aka what I've been training for my whole life).
Can anyone offer me some reassurance or suggestions or just something that doesn't make me feel like I botched a major opportunity?

if you don't hear back in a couple days call back. I graduated in May and had a similar interview during the summer. I didn't follow up when they said they would call me and they ended up filling the position.

Calling you an "attractive" candidate can be Sexual Harrassment Panda ;D
But seriously, look out for that e-mail or call back and if they don't contact you by Friday, it wouldn't hurt to send them an e-mail. I'll tell ya from this past summer, I missed one opportunity because they said they would contact me and I never contacted them back when I should have.
As far as focusing on the negative, when I interviewed for my current job, I thought I bombed both phone interviews and the face to face but still got hired. I love my job but man I thought I just sucked after those interviews. Then again I had an interview to work in the accounting office for Kroger in Nashville and dominated that interview but didn't get hired so....

Yeah, like others have said, just make sure you contact them if you don't hear from them in a few days.
Job interviews are terrible. I've had a whopping ONE interview since graduating from college two years ago. The interview was for a position with the local newspaper. I interviewed, he told me I was a perfect fit. Two days later, I call back only for him to tell me that I was "overqualified" for the position and he appreciated my time.
Hopefully nothing like that happens and you get the job.

Yes, us reporters are having a tough go of it. I take it your mostly focused on print too? I've stayed busy with some freelancing stuff and all, but I just want to be back at it full-time SO bad.

Primarily, yeah, that's my focus. Though at this point, with me being out of college so long without work, I'm ready to take whatever I can get.

I haven't heard back, but just sent out an e-mail. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.
In the meantime I've been looking for other reporting jobs anywhere remotely close to NYC. By remotely close I'm not even ruling out a two hour drive. I'm considering expanding my search to focus less on NYC, but I just hate moving so much. In the last 8 years I must have moved over a dozen times!
Anyway, at least I always have my full-time non-reporting job, my blog and freelancing.

Just got a quick update if anyone is interested.
So I sent an e-mail today, have yet to get a response, but just checked the job site I originally found the ad for it. They revised the ad and re-posted it without responding to my e-mail.
So should I let this one go and move on or bother trying to call them? I was leaning toward just moving on, but I figured since it can't hurt anyway might as well give them a call Monday.
What would you do?

Might as well call them.
Hopefully they give you reasoning why you weren't hired.

Just show up to work.
Make sure to provide your own red stapler.
And if anybody takes it, burn the place to the ground.

Turns out they hired one of their in-house part-time people. Pretty bummed, but at least I got a reason. Oh well back to looking for other ways to get back to NY.
