Reading the thread about Jeff Hardy's album made me think, why don't wrestlers make albums anymore?
In the 70's and 80's, it seemed like every other wrestler had their own album. The Freebirds, Terry Funk, Sweet Daddy Siki, etc. in this day and age of iTunes and digital distribution you'd think wrestlers would release songs for dirt cheap and make a few dollars singing about how they hate school or getting into fights at weddings or getting swooned by pretty girls in the front row.
Even if someone did it ironically it would make a few dollars. Why not "Rappin' with Scrap Daddy Adam Pearce" or "El Generico Sings Country & Western" or "Croonin' with Soldier Ant".
Someone's bound to do it right? And when they do, they'll be hundred-aires.

Cost. Even in the age of digital distribution, it's still too expensive for indy workers to produce albums. While people on the WWE roster could afford it, the WWE generally aren't too supportive of their workers trying outside ventures.

Okay, has anybody ever actually listened to Mickie James' album? I am really curious about it. I remember it being on iTunes a while back but then it got pulled. I don't know why. I probably would have bought for the sake of collecting in some way. Oh well, at least there is Maria's album, as well as Christy Hemme's album and The Luchagors' album.
I kind of want to hear R-Truth's stuff. I know he did one called "Invinceable" and I think he was in TNA when he did that.

Dusty Rhodes once asked on twitter who would support a rap album of his. I offered to bankroll the project. He didn't respond.
Also on Twitter, Kreayshawn once floated by Goldust the idea of them collaborating on the track. It seems the Kreayshawn era has come to an end before that could become a reality.

Yes, it was pretty bad, cliched country songwriting and not great singing by Mickie. It wasn't outright terrible, i.e. she was completely out of key or anything but she had a flat and boring delivery, as if she was focusing more on staying in key than in actually singing.

You can buy Johnny Yuma's entrance music on iTunes for a buck. He wrote and sang it himself.

Production costs (not impossible, but difficult) and time constraints (infinitely more difficult) aside, the primary reason we don't see this sort of thing anymore is ownership. When Michael Hayes and Adrian Street were hocking their wares in the Apter mags, it was to Hayes and Street that the money went. Nowadays, _especially_ in WWE but increasingly contracting indies as well, any such creative output from the talent becomes the property of the promotion per the contract. Mick Foley's book, if one recalls, was accepted and initially marketing quite outside the WWF/E fortress. I'm not aware of anyone else active within WWF/E whose books were permitted to be published outside the WWE imprint. Bret Hart's was under the Random House imprint (to get that imprint, the book's reputation and import is projected to be HUGE), but Vince and co. were even then trying to get some influence over the finished work. Most of the WWE books that followed Foley's were ghost-written.

Beauregarde's "Psychedelic Funk" is a great record that's available on iTunes. There's a video for the song "Testify" on Youtube.
