If this belongs in the WWE section, feel free to move it.
As the title of the thread says, what do you think is the first good Undertaker match? As you know, the first few years of the gimmick basically had him feel no pain. Since he's developed more, he has still had some stinkers.
For me, I think his first good match wouldn't be until the 1996 Royal RUmble against Bret Hart.
Thoughts?

I think it depends. I think the zombie gimmick works with the right opponents. I actually liked both of his 1994 PPV casket matches with Yokozuna. I wouldn't call them classics, but I'm comfotable calling them "good".

The Rumble casket match was pretty good, overbooked and cartooney but a decent match and you really didnt know who'd win.

I actually enjoy his match with Jake Roberts. It's nothing special, but it's short enough and 'Taker kicking out of those DDTs made him look strong, which was the point. Because it accomplished what it set out to do, I'd call it at least decent.

Wrestlemania 8, his matches with Yoko (massively under-rated, pardon the pun), and I also really enjoyed his Summerslam 1994 match with Brian Lee as the Underfaker.

For gimmicks it'd be the matches he had with Yokozuna in 1994, for brawls it'd be the series of matches he had with Mankind in 1996, and for in-ring performances it'd be the matches he'd have with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels in 1997.

I liked his stuff with Yoko and Mabel, but he really didn't start having consistently good matches until 1996. His first good Wrestlemania match was against Diesel. Mankind at Survivor Series 1996 is another great match. Then he pretty good matches until about late 1998 and had a dud year in 1999 until his 2000 return.

I don't care what anyone says, the first one with Hogan at SS was amazing, I also still love the Tuesday in Texas rematch. There is also a great one with Tito Santana I think that happened in Mexico and Taker put over Tito for takers first loss.

I'm a huge fan of the casket match at Royal Rumble 1994. I also enjoy the casket match from Survivor Series 1994, but not nearly as much. I think his casket match against Kama from SummerSlam 1995 is definitely underrated, though.

I was just going to chime in with mention of Taker's 1991 matches with Hogan. I think that particular program was the one that solidified Calloway as a major wrestler in the company. But this match with Tito intrigues me, though. When did it happen and was it ever filmed?

Thank you! This was an overseas tour show from Bracelona that was broadcast on Spanish TV. Interestingly, this show had a Ric Flair vs Kerry Von Erich match.

I guess I'm weird but my favorite Undertaker matches are from the first stretch of his WWF run, when he was this monster and would put jobbers in bodybags.

Jake at Mania VIII is great for the squash it's supposed to be.
Other than that, I'd say the first one is Diesel at Mania XII. From '96 on, he gradually "dezombified" and started showing the in-ring ability his character didn't allow him to.

The Hogan and Yoko matches aren't "5 star classics" but are great examples of pro wrestling as over-the-top storytelling and spectacle
