ever. The leader going it was exactly double the 2nd place person. Catagory was American Authors and the answer was basically "He said "My books are like water; those of the great geniuses are wine. (Fortunately) everybody drinks water""
I don't see how anyone even a bit familiar with American lit doesn't guess Mark Twain. But the leader gets it wrong guessing Henry David Thoreau. And then see bet 5k for some reason losing the match... WHY KIND OF DUMBASS ARE YOU

She way over-thought it. Mark Twain is the obvious answer with ANY question about "American authors"

Especially when it comes to that kind of wit. That's very much a hallmark of Mark Twain.

Mark Twain is the obvious answer with ANY question about "American authors" Yeah, that's the best trick with Jeopardy, just guess the most well known answer that comes to mind and you'll have a pretty ood chance of it. Frank Lloyd Wright is the only architect you need to know too.

What made it an even more bizarre guess is that Thoreau was dead by the time period they mentioned.
The thing with being the leader is that you should never, ever risk enough that could guarantee a lose. If another contestant ends up getting the right answer and risks it all and beats you, then more power to them. You should never put yourself in a position to lose, you must make them work for the win.
Just really bad game playing on her part.

Not as bad as the guy who was close, bet and lost it all on a daily double and then proceeded to just quit.

There was this one contestant back in the early 90's who bet everything and lost it all even though his opponents got the question wrong. He had a meltdown on TV and everything.

I've seen much worse examples of Final Jeopardy betting, but that sounds pretty bad.

I've seen much worse examples of Final Jeopardy betting, but that sounds pretty bad. It was the answer plus the bet that drove me insane.
