I know there are a few musicians here. What kind of amplifiers do you use? I just have a little practice one, Marshall MG15FX. Eventually, I'd like to get something nice (tube amp), I live in an apartment so it's okay for now. What do you guys use? What's a good price?
I've read the Peavy 6505 is good, it's like $600 though.

I've had a Fender Super Champ XD (it's since been revamped with USB capabilities and is now called the Super Champ X2) for a couple years now and I absolutely love it. It's a hybrid SS/Tube amp, but the more and more I play the more and more I realize that an amp doesn't need tubes to be good. This one, however, with its 16 different tones is pretty sweet. I play a lot with my Strat (medium output pickups) on the highest gain channel with the gain barely past halfway and it's a great, dry edgy sound. **Random note of help. You may read a lot that tubes are a hassle to maintain, but I just wanted you to know that's not universal. It had kind of worried me getting a tube amp because of the maintenance, but my XD has never needed new tubes. Now, it's not like I'm playing 9 hours a day, but I play quite a bit and they've held up nicely. So don't let that scare you away like it did me for a while - they can last a very long time.** For Christmas I got the Fender Mustang II, completely Solid State. I could've gotten the Mustang I as the two are exactly similar in sound (as far as I know), but I had wanted the 12" speaker that comes with the II so I got that. I don't like the Mustang as much as the Super Champ, but in all fairness to the Mustang I've had it for days compared to years with the XD. If you're in an apartment and ever want to upgrade, I'd definitely recommend the Mustang series to you - be it the 20 watt I or the 40 watt II. They go all the way up to the V, which is a 150 (or 100) watt amp head - so that might not be ideal for an apartment. The main two reasons I'd recommend the Mustang series is because they have headphone jacks, and the Fender FUSE software is too cool. You hook your computer up to the amp and you can further fiddle with the amp models, and you can even download community created presets. And, seeing as how the amp doesn't come with a Mid knob, you can adjust the mids in FUSE so it's very helpful. The II was $200, which isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things. When you're looking to upgrade, definitely give Fender a look. They've been killing it in all budget categories lately - mainly the low budget which is where I reside. What guitars do you have? I personally believe that amps matter much more than guitars, but I'm just curious as to what you're running into teh Marshall.

How's that AI treat you, Ghidorah? Best Mixer I have ever owned, its pretty damn old, so it has settings that a lot of the new mixers took out to "Streamline" the experience, but I love having as many manual options/knobs as possible. Can't go wrong with a Mackie.

I have a nice array of things accumulated over the 15 years I've been playing (I've also let a fair bit go as well!) My most recent acquisition. A Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster. I'd wanted a Jazzmaster for a while, because so many of the guitarists I liked played them - J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr (Of course!), Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore and My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields (The guy on the far left in my sig). I love this thing.

Sounds really good out of the box. I do plan to change the pickups soonish, because they're not "real" Jazzmaster pickups in the way they're constructed. More like P90s, but like I say, sound really good and you can get a good range of sounds from it.

Fender Twin Reverb. It's cool for what I do, but I have to really mess with it to get a dirty sound. Still a good amp though.

I've done it both ways, but I'm not a fan of the way that pedals distort the signal in that particular amp. It always sounds too clean for my taste, which makes sense given that crystal clear sounds are the hallmark of the Twin.

I have a small Marshall valvestate and for what it is it sounds good. There's a reason Marshalls are the most utilised amps in rock/metal, they're just awesome. Peaveys are cool, I used to have a Bandit 112 and that thing was a beast.

On new year's day, I ordered myself one of these:
A Devi Ever "Hyperion" fuzz pedal. Described by some as "The Big Muff Killer". I've purchased other Devi Ever pedals in the past, and they sound great. Some really crazy sounds to be had with those as well as more usable tones.
Can't wait until it arrives.
