I'm trying to play through the game before I watch these, but man I just hit a wall when leveling suddenly got absurdly expensive.

I enjoyed the review, and really love that Spoony is turning in work at a more frequent rate (and quality work, to boot), but I was really hoping that after the last installment, he'd be past nitpicking the game's world and would go on to actually critiquing the plot or game mechanics in a more substantial fashion than he did.
Seriously, I know he said as much in part I, but I don't think anyone gives a s*** that the trees in the Gapra Whitewood seem to be made of glass, but Spoony. It's Final Fantasy. Not all fiction has Tolkien's knack for worldbuilding.
But those are only minor gripes. I'm just glad Spoony is back, and doing his thing again.

it was a funny review, but he needs to pick up the pace on this stuff. 2 reviews in and he's still only half an hour into the game. we really didn't need 10 minutes of ranting about Snow's trenchcoat.

He had a problem with the trenchcoat? Weird, considering Snow is one of the more sensibly dressed Final Fantasy characters ever.

He had a problem with the trenchcoat? Weird, considering Snow is one of the more sensibly dressed Final Fantasy characters ever. It was more the fact that it was some sort of magic trenchcoat, which is what gave him the strength to destroy giant robots with his bare fists. It made Spoony question where the trenchcoat came from, if Snow made it himself, why he's the only person who owns one, etc. I do think that Spoony needs to pick his battles a little more carefully in this review. If he stops to nitpick on everything that's stupid or doesn't make sense in the game, the review is going to be ten hours long.

And then there's the fact that between saying the Chocobo thing will come later and the two cases in the first part, it's looking like he's going to be doing XIII-2 as well. And if you go with that might as well finish the trilogy once that one comes out.

It's not the coat that's magic though, it's the rune that's sewn on them. And he probably gets them at the same place Sabin, Tifa, and Zell got the weapons that allowed them to destroy giant robots with their fists, or suplex a train in Sabin's case.
This is a franchise where one of the characters from one of the best regarded games used a paintbrush, I'm not seeing what's to nitpick about weird weapon choices.

Has me mentioned the 'move forward, press A + cutscene' gameplay it has yet ?

He had a problem when Zell was doing it as well. Don't know about Tifa, but he talked about Sabin before basically, Sabin was meant to be a mystic monk that trained for years to get his powers... as opposed to Snow who goes for more wild punches combined with 6's setting was a steampunk world filled with magic and not the clean futuristic robotics where magic IS ONLY available to the L'cie like in 13. Also his SERAH! Counter is off by one and I actually agree with his major gripe of this being the fundamental flaw in it's storytelling by relying on you to go to the data log to basically have any grip on what the hell they are talking about. I understand it can seem kinda jilted if they start explaining stuff that characters should already know... but this game has a narrator, they could very easily have Vanille explain some of the crap to whoever it is she's supposed to be talking to.
