Wasn't there a crappy mix of HHH and Conan the barbarian when he was trying to get that movie roll? I seem to remember him being called one or two things that felt really forced and went over like a fart in church.
I believe they were said in the weeks (months?) before he was doing the Conan entrance at Wrestlemania.
Maybe.

Not really a nickname per se, but I loved how hard they tried to get over Miz as a cold, Orton-esque career killer in late 2011. Like some kind of iceman, they said at the time. It's funny to watch Steve Austin's first match with the Stone Cold nickname, where the announcers are really trying to sell the "cold" part. "Look at that icy stare, he's so cold and doesn't show any emotions" etc. I'm guessing that it didn't take that long before someone decided that there was no need to be so literal.

The HHH nickname people are trying to think of was "The One True Destroyer".

The HHH nickname people are trying to think of was "The One True Destroyer". "The One True Burier" would have been more accurate, at the time.

Vince tried his hardest to get people to refer to vader as "the mastadon" but everyone called him Vader regardless.
To quote jim cornette "it's f***in Vader, everyone in the world knows who he is"

The HHH nickname people are trying to think of was "The One True Destroyer". YES That was the Conan/HHH one I was thinking off.

Vince tried his hardest to get people to refer to vader as "the mastadon" but everyone called him Vader regardless. To quote jim cornette "it's f***in Vader, everyone in the world knows who he is" The one that annoyed me was that they insisted on always referring to him as "The Man They Call Vader" instead of just Vader. It just seemed annoying as hell, to me.

"The Red Devil" Undertaker had this briefly in 2002.

Remember Mark Henry Silverback there are a lot of terrible ones in this thread but that one always stuck out as particularly awful. did WWE just not see the inherent racism of comparing a large black man to a gorilla? also, I'd never heard "Neon Genesis" Yoshi Tatsu before, and I can't stop laughing about it. I wish that one had actually stuck. they could've really run with it and given Yoshi a gimmick where he's always crying about being asked to do anything and it completely incapable of manning up for 5 seconds.

"Original Destroyer" HHH' that's "the One True Destroyer". it was from the same period where Triple H tried getting over "the King of Kings" as his nickname. they both sounded stupid as hell, like something a 12 year old would call himself when he's backyard wrestling with his chums. someone should've told Trips the rule about giving yourself a nickname.

The One Man Dynasty, Randy Orton. Thank goodness that one failed to stick.

"Original Destroyer" HHH' that's "the One True Destroyer". it was from the same period where Triple H tried getting over "the King of Kings" as his nickname. I was close.... "Devil's favorite demon" still crops up from time to time for Kane. WWE is probably too kid-friendly to just call him "Hellhound". "Wildcat" is not going to stick for Kofi, they're trying way too hard. "The One" Billy Gunn was around long enough for one t-shirt.

The Big Hungry was dropped real quick. I don't know why they thought that would work.
The Gold Standard for Shelton Benjamin stopped real quick.

Did "The Apex Predator" stick? I first saw it mentioned online someplace, on a Photoshopped banner image - and it's always come across as rather odd (though in a good way) since...
Of course, this is mainly because, when I was a kid, Apex was a local department store. Hence, it's a strange callback to a defunct retail company for me.

Why am I seeing "The King of Kings" and "The Viper" here? Those two totally stuck. I think people are confusing this for "Nicknames that suck".

Did "The Apex Predator" stick? Justin Roberts always announces him as "The Apex Predator" on Raw/PPV. Not so sure about Lilian though.

Basically every Brock Lesnar nickname except The Next Big Thing. The Manster. The Anomaly. The War Machine. After he won the title didn't they even try to get over just "The Big Thing" or "The Current Big Thing" for a while before giving up? Why am I seeing "The King of Kings" and "The Viper" here? Those two totally stuck. I think people are confusing this for "Nicknames that suck". Yeah, there were a lot of HHH "King of Kings" shirts and signs in the crowd around 2006-2008. Same today with Orton/Viper signs. Those two nicknames definitely stuck better than most.

"The Red Devil" Undertaker had this briefly in 2002. David "A-List" Otunga I didn't mind Red Devil, because they usually combined it with the nickname that DID stick, giving us "Big Evil, Red Devil"
