Oh sweet Jesus yes! Please let this succeed! I only watch a handful of channels as it is. The rest of my TV viewing is done through Netflix.

I don't see the channels being very willing to go through with this.

Fantastic idea, but I very much see the issues with it.

As much as I hate cable TV companies... the average person doesn't understand just how bad the consumer would get screwed by opening this pandora's box.
If you think on disk DLC is bad in gaming, just wait until you have to buy the "special ending that doesn't suck" to your favorite show.
I'm not saying the current situation is ideal, but don't pretend it's going to be all lollypops and rainbows as you pretend you'll have a 2$ cable bill because you only watch CLOO and USA.

And then cable providers will respond by capping the Internet in their home packages. Want to watch your shows? Fair enough, but enjoy your data cap.
Basically, until Google starts widespread implementation of Fiber, nothing will drastically change.

Or, do like mine already does - they won't let you get their Internet without also having cable through them. Internet itself's an okay price at $40, but cable for only about forty channels is $50. And seeing as the only alternative in my area is $120, is slower, and has a data cap....

Basically, until Google starts widespread implementation of Fiber, nothing will drastically change. Comcast already has their cap implemented, at least in my area. I already made my whiney thread over it but still feel it is bs to cap the customers that have the 2nd to highest package with them. They gave us a three month grace period and we went over those three (I was unemployed and watched loads of Netflix). If we go over and get charged, we will start by canceling the premium channels and work our way down. I would be ok with the basic package and high speed Internet but mom makes the decision on it.... I pray for Google Fiber to come to us because all we have for high speed Internet is cable and for most apartments around here, the only option is Comcast. They won't even allow you to have a dish for Directv or Dish Network

Plus, cable providers may force you to keep those unwanted channels by bundling them together. Want Spike TV? Ok, but you also have to have all the other Viacom channels, whether you watch them or not.
