www.wwe.com/shows/raw/2012-12-31/cm-punk-cleared-to-compete-26080986As WWE Champion CM Punk’s potential title defense against Ryback approaches on the Jan. 7 edition of Monday Night Raw, WWE.com sources indicate that The Straight Edge Superstar has been medically cleared for in-ring competition several weeks after his undergoing knee surgery. The decision, if confirmed, returns Punk to action effective immediately, meaning he will defend his championship as scheduled in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match against Ryback. The bout had originally been scheduled for the WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view, but Punk’s sudden trip under the knife suspended that contest until the champion was fully recuperated. His status was in doubt as recent as Dec. 31, when his recovery timeline from the procedure was called into question by Punk's personal physician. WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon had gone so far as to schedule a potential replacement match should Punk prove unable to compete, but pending approval, it appears The Chairman’s worries are assuaged. Our sources also indicate that a final decision on the champion's status will be presented to the WWE Universe on WWE Main Event tonight at 8/7 CT on ION Television.

I still don't get why they're doing this match.
Not just the idea of Punk competing in a TLC match a month after surgery but the fact that you're putting Ryback in a position where he has to lose another title match when there's no reason to. I don't think there was any great outcry for another Punk-Ryback match. Punk could have moved onto Rock and Ryback could have moved onto The Shield and no one would have batted an eyelid.

I am actually (surprisingly) hyped for this match, I hope it goes on last with Rock's return starting the show. I hope anyways, no point in useless Cena promo going on last when its a TLC Match for the WWE Championship. Knowing them they probably still will do the less awesome option though

So, the match will go on as scheduled.
The Shield will probably interfere, leading to Ryback eventually killing them all, and Punk gets away from Ryback and moves onto Rock.
I thought we all figured this out.

Agreed. I also don't get why in kayfabe Ryback gets another shot. Yeah, he's gotten screwed over, but at Survivor Series The Shield interference was perfectly legal. You'd think Ryback would have at least had to win a high profile match after that to earn another title shot, but in between that PPV and his announced title shot at TLC he only beat D-Young, Titus O'Neil, and Tensai.

I doubt this match will still go down.
I predict Punk will run circles around the ring until The Shield come down to save Punk, Punk tries to pin Ryback but Rock makes the save.
In the end the match will probably end in a no contest.

You can't just gloss over the fact that he got screwed over. That's about as legitimate a reason for a rematch as there is.

I think having it be TLC just means that someone (probably The Shield) will interfere on Punk's behalf and he'll pick up an easy victory.

Good. I was looking forward to this match.
I'm sure they wouldn't be doing it if they didn't think Punk could stand up to it so I don't get why people are worrying. It's not our job to decide on a wrestlers fitness.

I thought you still have to pin the opponent, like Shield vs Ryback and Team Hell No at TLC. But it can't be no contest because it's No DQ. Even with Rock interfering on Ryback's behalf, there's no way Ryback is winning the title

Maybe it's not the title hanging above the ring, maybe it's a gloried hardcore match with ladders (ex. Team Hell No/Ryback vs. Shield).

I figure it will probably be with the title hanging from the top due to the WWE wanting to avoid Ryback actually getting pinned.
