Something that's always made me wonder (I think I may have even made a thread on this many years ago), is that Ditto can breed with most pokemon. The reason for this is because Ditto can transform, right? But Ditto transforms into a copy of the pokemon it sees. So if i put it in the daycare with my male...IDK Ponyta, does it not turn into a male Ponyta? So theoretically in that situation are two male ponytas getting it on and creating an egg!?

To be fair, the games do stress quite a bit that there is no actual proof Pokemon lay eggs and those things could just be showing up from somewhere. Presumably Arceus doesn't show up and create / destroy a universe for the sake of one egg every time, but...

Well breeding still matters. The males pass down the egg moves, the females don't. If you get a female Pokemon and a Ditto to breed, hoping the baby will know one of its mother's moves, it won't. And I believe there's a chance the baby will hatch with its mother's nature, if you're "creating" a specific kind of Pokemon. There's also the Infatuation status to consider, with abilities like Cute Charm and moves like Attract, which rely on the opposite gender.
So while it doesn't play a huge role, genders very well matter.

The nature thing used to be that with an Everstone you had a 50% chance of the mother's, then it became of either, now it's guaranteed to whichever has the item. Also gender used to have a slight impact on stats, though ever since they introduced personality values that's no longer the case.
