What are some of the best matches at a Royal Rumble PPV that were not the actual Rumble match itself (I.e. 1 on 1 or tag matches)?
This PPV is obviously defines by the 30 man every superstar for themselves match, but what about the other types of matches?

Benoit and Jericho had one of the most brutal ladder matches in recent memory at the 2001 Rumble.

Some others:
1991: The Rockers v The Orient Express - Shawn Michaels' first great WWF PPV performance 1992: The New Foundation v The Orient Express - Tanaka makes Neidhart look relevant again, then Owen Hart gets his first real showcase. 2005: Shawn Michaels v Edge

Edge and Christian vs. The Dudley Boyz is a great opening bout for the 2001 Royal Rumble.

Cactus Jack vs Triple H - 2000 without a doubt, and Kurt Angle vs Hardcore Holly - 2003 was also excellent!

JBL vs Chris Jericho at Royal Rumble 2008 was great, as was MVP vs Ric Flair.

Angle/Benoit might just be the greatest match of 2003, and that says a lot with HBK/Jericho and the Lesnar/Angle series

I was expecting Umaga vs John Cena to get some nods. I was never the biggest fan of it, but it deserves note for the sheer amount of creativity that went into it, whatwith the rope spot and Cena being the one guy in the history of wrestling to actually sell the weight of the steel steps.
Also, Kennedy vs Batista from the same show filled me with a belief that Kennedy's career was going to better and higher places than it did. It was a pretty good tale of a devious up-and-comer trying to chop down the colossus, and, of course, failing.
I'll throw in Hardcore Holly vs Brock Lesnar too, not for the actual match content, but that fact it was a Royal Rumble undercard match that actually had some weight going into it, and perfect use of the filler title-match concept that goes hand-in-hand with the show.
In contrast to the above, I'll make mention of Cena vs JBL with HBK, as it had enough stakes going into it, it felt like a proper main-event.

I also have to give a nod to Cena/Umaga. This was during the time of sheer heel heat for Cena. It wasn't even as split as it is now, and I was expecting nothing from this match, and was blown away by it.

Not classics by any means but I think both HBK vs Edge (2005) and Hardy Boyz vs MNM (2007) deserve shout outs. I love HHH vs HBK (2004), Cena vs Umaga (2007), Benoit vs Angle (2003), HHH vs Cactus Jack (2000), Orton vs Hardy (2008), Benoit vs Jericho (2001) and Hardyz vs Dudley Boyz (2000)

Cena/Umaga was far better than anyone could have expected and probably one of my favorite matches ever.
It's a prime example of how you get someone over without them winning. Cena had to damn near MURDER the guy to keep him down.
