Fortunately, I have a full-time one already, but I'm looking to get back into my field journalism. Today I have a phone interview for a job in New York (not quite journalism, but it does involve writing) and just got an e-mail from someone in central New York interested in meeting. I really want to get back to that state and the latter position is actually in journalism so I hope that works out. I've been sending out a lot of resumes lately and I'm glad to say I've gotten some replies. Just no firm catches yet.

I currently have a job as well, but I'm looking to make more money as I'm underpaid. Had a phone interview yesterday and a in-person one on Monday.
Here in MD there isn't a huge market for my specific skills if you don't have security clearance already in place, so my fingers are crossed.

Yeah, I'll be getting on that soon. Took a break over the holiday as few people hire during that time for legit jobs.
Job hunting is the shits though. Unless you've got an "in" with the company, getting to the interview stage is nigh-impossible and the interview itself...well, if I have to hear those standard idiotic questions again it'll be too soon.

Nuts don't think the interview went that great. I got tongue tied a few times. Still, I guess I made it to the next level as I'm going to get sent an assessment to take.

I've been on one for a year now. At this point, I feel like my only hope is moving.

Luckily my summer Job Hunt ended in November. From the time I quit in July, I got a job at car factory and it was terrible but got me by for a few weeks until I got my current job. I have been there since November and already have better pay/ benefits than the job I was at for 5 years. I don't have a college degree so it definitely wasn't easy to find.
While I was unemployed, I lived with my mom and never drew unemployment (big mistake as a former co-worker did and got almost what we made weekly at the Krog). I think I put in 25 resume/ applications in August though. Good luck to those trying to find work. I am hoping you can get something, even if it is crappy but it will help get by from month to month.

I'm looking for other jobs because although my job is easy and the hours are great, I'm looking for something more challenging and somewhere where there is an even number of males and females. I work in an all male environment and while I ignore the sexist talk, I draw the line when they pull their pants down.

Still on the job hunt. My area I found out is actually notoriously bad for finding work. I don't have exactly the option of moving.

I've been out of work since March. I am working with the EDD (California's unemployment department) to keep my unemployment coming in. I've been knocking on doors and handing out resumes. I've been scouring several job websites (like Monster) and had a total of three callbacks that led to an interview. None of them led to anything. I am currently registered with three different employment agencies and have yet to get anything from any of them. It is depressing.

Working a full-time bar job while my web design and programming qualifications become obsolete sucks, but at least I can make rent every month.

If you have the resources to honestly moving might not be a bad option. I am, yes. Around here, a lot of places around here refuse to hire anyone with a college degree. It's a fairly weird local phenomena I've noticed. I could fill filing cabinets with "you're overqualified" e-mail I have received from various places. I'd love to move, but the resources (sadly) just aren't available at the moment. It doesn't help that my girlfriend has a really good job and probably wouldn't be too keen on moving. But oh well, I'm sure I'll find something eventually. Gonna stay positive and all of that.

I just got a new job working for an organization which assists those who are having difficulty finding work. I was working in business operations before that, but resigned my previous position to find something more ethically rewarding, and relevant to my education.
The job search was a tough one, though. I find applying to postings online is similar to playing a local lottery. Especially on sites like Monster and Workopolis. My previous employer told me they were only able to read maybe 10% of resumes received online before sourcing enough candidates for an interview.

Every time I try to apply in person it seems like they're always telling me to go and apply online. I just feel like it's a waste of time and no one sees it, which is probably about right.

An internship for a journalism job would be good for me. Hell, any job, as long as I am working. I will get back to working as a seasonal next month, though.

If you have the resources to honestly moving might not be a bad option. I've been looking for something for well over a year and live in a small town. The kicker is I can't afford to move. I keep running into the circle of not having any experience that a job requires in that area before even applying to it. How am I supposed to get any experience if no one will hire me due to my lack of experience?

not on one currently but I will be on one when my placement ends. and frankly, I can't wait to start because School is becoming a major drag for me and if I'd known how unprofessional the school I go to was run I probably would've just skipped going back.

I went to a job fair a few months ago and wanted to apply at a place exhibiting there. They told me to go online and apply. Thank goodness I took the train all the way there to go home and apply online.

It doesn't help that my girlfriend has a really good job and probably wouldn't be too keen on moving. But oh well, I'm sure I'll find something eventually. Gonna stay positive and all of that. a lot of service industry jobs use the "you're overqualified" excuse (and it is an excuse. there's no such thing as being "overqualified") because they're afraid that if they hire someone with a degree that person's going to take off sooner rather than later because they know damn well they can't compete with a potential job offer from a place in that person's field of expertise. it really sucks and it's stupid thinking (let's face it, if you're running a service industry job it doesn't matter what a person's qualifications are, they'll be mercenary regardless) but it's just one of those realities that people in hiring positions are very slow to react to (largely because they lack qualifications themselves, coming from a time when those qualifications weren't really "needed").
