Where did you prefer them?
For me I preferred the Nitro booth away from the ring. maybe because it was a better show back then.
On the other hand I prefer the Raw announce booth at ringside, though the desk taking a beating became really repetitive.
You?

I have a soft spot for the team being away from the ring due years of it being like that on Superstars and Challenge. I do get the reason for the announce booth being near the ring due to having the feel of being near the action

Even though I grew up mainly watching shows where they were not at ringside, the sight of the commentators at ringside (especially at MSG, when they were right up against the ring - WCW did that for a while too, IIRC, though I think that ended after the Heenan/Pillman incident) always impressed me. Ever since then, I've always preferred seeing them at ringside. The Raw booth way in the back annoyed me to no end.

I prefer the booth away from ringside.
At Wrestlemania VI, Jesse and Gorilla were high up in the Skydome and their view was incredible.

I prefer ringside. The WCW booths being far away was their thing and was okay but I never understood why they had their backs turned to the action.

On the one hand, I liked the way WCW began their shows with the announcers in their position as it all seemed very professional. On the other hand, it just seems so much more logical to have the announcers near the action and I really didn't like it when the RAW announce table was moved away so I guess I prefer ringside.

Well I forget who said this, but I remember someone saying that the monitors show exactly what the viewers at home see. You always watch and call the action on the monitor; you never look at the ring because you don't want to be calling something that the viewers aren't seeing.

Instead of starting a new thread for this, this seems like a perfect place to ask a question I've been curious about..
Were the shots of the announcers starting the shows, especially back in the superstars/wrestling challenge era, always "live"? There were a few times where it felt like they were in front of a green screen, but then later in the show you did see them live in the arena, so I don't know if it's just my imagination or what..

I believe many of them were live, in that they were recorded in an arena full of people. But I think they just taped several intros in a row, and then did the match commentary in studio later. I believe as the 90s went on, they went with green screens exclusively on the weekend shows.

Yeah, Schiavone was always looking down so he was looking at a monitor. I guess that makes sense but I remember during an NFL game, an Commentator said the opposite. You always look at the field, not the monitor. But it's obviously different with wrestling since they are below eye level and can't see the action.

As a commentator, you're supposed to look at the monitor because that's what the people at home are seeing.

Away from the ring makes more sense since you see the wider view of what's going on. Being close to the ring felt like it'd be a weird angle where your view is obstructed by the bottom of the ring.
