The thing about Severn in WWF as opposed to Shamrock in WWF was that Shamrock was quick, and sort of a precursor to today's MMA stars who could pretty easily make the transition into pro wrestling.
Severn was the type of fighter who would have done well back in the NWA days (before he held the bullshit legacy title, the Harley Race days, or the Thesz days) and his fights in UFC were good, but was so slow paced and methodical that even the most staunch of submission wrestling fans would be like, "Get the f*** out of here."

The brotha who suggested a bodyguard role for Severn was right.
He could have been someone's Big E

At the time the WWF was doing the "NWA invasion" story, and Severn was the NWA champion-he showed up on WWF tv with the belt. But that died shortly after he arrived. They tried to play up his past rivalry with Ken Shamrock, but I believe both men had pretty much buried the hatchet, even if they weren't friends by that time, so they just did not come across as legit hating each other. Severn just is not suited for professional wrestling-he is a queit and soft spoken kind of guy. Even during his MMA days, Shamrock had a certain charisma with the crowd; he would play up to them, climb up the side of the cage and shout to get them riled up. Severn just went in there, did what he did, and left. He didn't have the kind of big and boisterous personality to be a pro wrestler.

You know who they should've brought in instead of Severn? Don Frye would have been perfect as the silent asskicker type.

While we're talking MMA guys in WWE, anyone remember Sylvester Terkay in WWECW? Elijah Burke was his corner man or something. I liked his style in the ring, for all of the few months he lasted.

Severn would been more at home in 1984 NWA that Attitude Era WWF. In a time where everyone was colorful and over the top, he was old school like Matt Classic.
